COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Horst takes the idea of the original English Brown Ale and turns it on its head. Taking a cue from the craft beer scene in California, Horst blends U.S. west coast hops with traditional German noble hops. This blend gives our brown ale piney and earthy notes that pair perfectly with the roast, bread like flavors from the malt. After the beer was finished we added even more west coast hops to bring an explosive grapefruit, lemon, and floral bouquet to compliment the smooth, sweet chocolate aromatics. Don’t let Horst’s dark color fool you, it is light bodied, finishing smooth and dry.

Jan 2017 - "...and turns it on its head." is the right description. Hoppy front passing to a brown malt and sweet cara finish. I expected it the other way round but I like the twist

Bottle, thnx to bartlebier. Pours a clear brown beer with a big off white head on top. Aroma of dried fruits, light caramel, hint of vanilla and some milky chocolate. Flavour is very malty and light sweet, sugary and has notes of dark fruits. Aftertaste is medium long and light sweet, carbonation is decent. Very subtle and easy drinking. Nice.

Trocken bitterer Antrunk, moderat malzig. Dabei Gewürznoten, karamellig, zunehmende frische Hopfigkeit, die aber bis zum Ende im Hintergrund bleibt. Langer, trocken bitterer und dennoch weicher Nachhall. /9/10/9/10/9

(bottle, 33cl) Hazy, murky amber to brown colour with a big and firm tanned foamy head. Piney, spicy and mildly fruity hoppy aroma with hints of grapefruit, nettles and a whiff of caramel. Quite bitter flavour, medium to light bodied with a slightly sharp carbonation. Dry malt character with a tinge of bready notes, caramel and shades of chocolate, backed by present piney, herbal and subtle fruity hoppy accents; dry and moderately hop bitter finish with mainly piney and resiny notes, as well as a mildly caramelly and delicately bready malty counterpart. Very good. 14.IV.16
