UPDATED: MAR 18, 2019 Sample at Bob's Bar. Hazy golden color with a medium white head that burns away quickly to an outer ring. Short strings of lace. Stone fruit, smoke and wheat in the nose. Medium body with flavors of pear, smoked malt, wheat and yeast. The finish is smokey and fruity with a pear aftertaste. Decent overall.

Bottle. It poured a golden color with a white head. The aroma was of smoke, pear, lemon and peat. The taste was similar to the aroma with more smoke, pear, lemon, peat, some sourness with medium carbonation and a nice smoky aftertaste. Not bad.

This is my 100th beer from Germany, and my very first Lichtenhainer. Draft at Hopcat Detroit. Aroma is smoked malt, wheat, light pear, some earth, interesting. Appearance is brownish amber, off white head, mostly clear. Taste is very light smoke, a bit of wheat, some light pear, slightly tart, interesting and complex. Mouthfeel is light body, very light carbonation, lightly smoky tart wheat aftertaste. Overall, this is certainly an interesting style.

0.5l bottle. Malty and smoked aroma, light pear notes. Almost clear golden color, soapy white head. Malty taste, light smoked notes, pear notes, light sour, light bitter. Medium body, slick texture, soft to average carbonation and malty, light sour finish with smoked notes. Ok.

Hazy, quite pale, spicy nose, yeasty and peppery, medium body, touch of tartness, a little bit if pear juice in the finish.

On tap at Farmhouse Fest, pours an opaque cloudy golden yellow with a small white head. Aroma brings out plenty of peat, with a little biscuity malt, not much else really. Flavour is along the same lines, with light peat, gentle smoke and dry biscuity malt. Somewhat assertive, yet not overbearing. Decent but nothing special.

Medium caramel color, no head, light carbonation. Pronounced smoky nose, somewhat bready. Lightly tart, dry, with a nice smoky finish. Mouthfeel suffers from the low carbonation however, it sure could be better if it was more lively. Still I really am enjoying the combo of sour and smoke. As for pear, there is maybe a tiny hint in the flavor, right up front at first sip.

0.5l bottle @ Proletariat. This is a near clear paleish golden looking one with a nice medium sized white head. Tartish sour pearish aroma, Both sweet and tart actually. Wood also her? Has this been barreled? It has a mild oily texture in the mouth and its above average on the carbonation. Nice smoked touch in the taste. Again, its both sweet and tart in the taste. Apples and something reminding me of burnt wood. Nice and really different. 20.06.2015
