pushkinwow (3525) - Ottawa, CANADA - AUG 1, 2019
UPDATED: AUG 1, 2019 2017 bottle at the epic lambic festival in the middle of nowhere while on 2019 Never to be Topped (challenge to forever do better) Belgium trip with Ian, Jason and James. Seemed to have scored the only bottle at the beginning of the afternoon and got a nice sized pour. Pale magenta with an off white head, fair amount of up front aged grape must, nice funk and sour, some barnyard, mineral and epson salt, opens up with a fresh sourness and some oak, full bodied and milder carbonation, long finish that is delicious.

Flaska på Moeder Lambic Orginal. Funkig och druvig karaktär och lite mer kolsyra. Lätt med smak av druvjuice och bäriga rödblå druvor. Mycket gott.

A glass at Bells and Whistles shared with Matt. Pours a hazy purple with a rose head. Aroma is funky with barnyard and semi-sweet grape notes. Taste is similar, quite dry, tannins, lots of dry grape notes. Nice.

Beershine (5262) - VANCOUVER, British Columbia, CANADA - NOV 15, 2018
Pours a startlingly dark, almost burgundy hue, opaque with an admirably tight, lingering, pink plump head. The house character is all over the enticing aroma: earthy, woody, wild. Body is soft with the perfect amount of carbonation, lively enough to lighten the palate and carry the beauty to the brain. The flavors are strikingly different from the aromas, with the piquant flavor of the unique wild grape dominating. Knowing nothing about grapes, I am envisioning walking through an ancient vineyard occasionally plucking the thin-skinned plump pleasures from the vine. And the grapiness from sipping a really good sangria. I love that it goes back and forth from sweet to dry. The unabashed sugars from the grape start the conversation, but the dry lambic character has the last say. This is the most characterful Cantillion I have had in a while.

Draught, Bells & Whistles. Has a gorgeous purple colour, with a pink-purple head. On the nose, the base contributes a lot of leather, tannin, and a bit of armpit, but then there's a deep grapey fruit character as well. On the palate, the fruit is quite prominent - a deep, juicy, bold grape character. This is balanced by the dry, leathery lambic that finish with a moderate tartness (especially for Cantillon), abundant wood. This is one of the best-balanced Cantillons, and has a really impresive depth of flavour. Wow. Just excellent. I love that sweetness in the finish, but also that it still leaves the leathery dryness intact.

Gerbeer (5378) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - NOV 15, 2018
On tap. Pours a garnet red with moderate pinkish head. Aromas of Cantillon barnyard, sulphury/musty grapes and wheat. Flavors of earthy red grapes, vinous wet oak, tart black cherries, and wheaty malts. Quite nice.

On tap at Bells & Whistles, pours a deep dark pink with a medium pink head. Aroma brings out that wonderful barnyard funk character upfront, with heaps of lightly tart grapes, and light leather. Flavour follows as one would expect, with a lovely tart, dry grape skins character, with moderate mustiness, and loads of barnyard funk. Not overly tart, nor acidic; just a perfect blend of lightly tart, dry potent grapes, and barnyard funk. Lovely stuff.
