COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Brewers Reserve Alpha Pale Ale is very much in line with the beers from America’s North West – assertive bitterness together with a distinctive fruit and citrus aroma - except we’ve put a Matilda Bay spin on it. It has a big hop nose with citrus notes derived from the use of Cascade hops imported from North America. 35 IBU.

On tap at brewery, Hunter. Pours a pale wheat gold with a thin white head. Aroma: mild biscuity malt, straw and grass notes. Weak aroma. Taste: biscuity malt, cloves, straw, mild citrus flavours. Quite acidic. Unbalanced and amateurish. This was dreadful. Not sure if it was just a bad batch, but you think that at least at the brewery they would be able to serve you something fresh or drinkable.

UPDATED: FEB 4, 2022 From can (4mo from BB) in tapered shaker. Pours clouded deep amber w/rocky beige head, piney citrus hop aroma. Nice caramel malt base blends w/zesty fruit, spicy hop finish. Better than last time I tried it

Poured a crystal clear dark amber with a one- to two-finger off-white dense foam head that retained extremely well and laced well. Carbonation high, lively and fine. Aroma subtly of citrus/lemon with hints of grapefruit and pine. Taste of moderately strong grapefruit with slight malt and slight pine notes; soft, moderate bitterness. Light body. Smooth and clean with a moderately long moderate strength bitterness on the finish.

Amber, effervescent, earthy aroma, hit of cheesy hop, moderate bitterness, light crystal Bland but clean

The pick of the bunch from Matilda Bay’s regular stable but increasingly difficult to source in Australia. This one was consumed on tap at the Australian Heritage Hotel in The Rocks, Sydney. Looks good with a copper-amber body and ample stable white head. Plenty of lemony citrus hops with hints of pine resin on top of a biscuity malt bill on the nose and tongue. Clean zesty medium-bodied palate with well balanced flavours and a firm bitterness.

UPDATED: OCT 9, 2015 345ml bottle into schooner glass @ Beverly Hills Hotel Sydney. Hoppy/caramel nose. Copper beer with solid creamy white head. Medium carbonation. Oily mouthfeel. Taste is pine needles, caramel, bitter lemon. Long finish leads to final touch of grapefruit. Great well-balanced beer, probably the best from this brewery.

A very nice beer with lots of floral aromas. A beautiful copper colour with a nice creamy head and excellent carbonation. Palate wasn't as long lasting as I had expected but still quite good. A good example of a pale ale.

Copper pour with a thin white head. Big, citrusy, fruity aroma. Taste is citrus, caramel, a little passionfruit, nice bitterness. A very approachable beer and a good offering compared to a lot of the mainstream local brews

From a bottle. Pours copper with minimal head, big hop bitterness with a strong malt smoothness. Not bad

Surprisingly complex beer from matilda bay, very much an american style pale ale with a lot of citrus shining through, some nutty coppery flavors and intense bitterness leaving me craving another bottle.
