jmgreenuk (19351) - Kuala Lumpur, MALAYSIA - OCT 5, 2021
UPDATED: OCT 5, 2021 330ml bottle from somewhere in the Netherlands and aged for a few years in my beer fridge in KL. Poured a hazy medium reddish brown colour with a mostly lasting frothy off-white head. The aroma is big vinous and oaky notes. The flavour is moderate sweet, with a rich, dry, earthy, mineral, spicy oak tannins, vinous palate. Medium bodied with average to soft carbonation, although there was plenty of escaping gasses when the bottle was opened. Six years of age has done this beer no harm and it’s certainly taken on the characteristics of the wine.

UPDATED: SEP 5, 2021 (Bottle) Hazy brown colour with brief, beige head. Malty, vinous nose with caramel, dried fruit, figs, dates, prunes, brown sugar, wood, and red fruit. Malty, fruity taste with notes of caramel, dried fruit, prunes, figs, dark bread, oak wood, a touch of red wine and a vinous finish with a mild spicy bitterness. Full body, quite sweet. Warming and tasty, the wine barrel character stays in the background, but shines through a little. Great beer!

janubio (1790) - SPAIN - APR 11, 2020
UPDATED: APR 11, 2020 Bottle bought at De bierkoning in 2009, served at home in a snifter glass. Pours a copper colour, no head and no lacing. Aroma of wood, red wine, caramel, molasses, apples, marzipan, polvorón, spices, alcohol is present. Full body, oily texture, flat carbonation. Sweet finish, the kind of sweetness that makes flies try to sit on your mouth. Taste is just as the aroma suggests, with a bit of pepper. Impressive.
