UPDATED: JUL 30, 2020 Flat black pour w/ no head or lacing. The aroma is robust with bourbon & dark fruit notes. The flavor has some bourbon but the dark fruit compliments it well with just a hint of vanilla. The body is silky & not thick in texture. Quite tasty!

beer-yum (3705) - Wellington, NEW ZEALAND - OCT 8, 2019
UPDATED: MAR 5, 2021 From notes of tasting session with original: Prominent licorice aroma in a jet black pour. Complex taste with hints of coffee, chocolate, vanilla, and licorice/aniseed all made subtle by the barrel aging. An excellent brew that lives up to its reputation.

UPDATED: SEP 20, 2019 A 500ml bottle with no bottled on or best before date. Poured into a snifter glass. It was black in colour with a dark brown hue and a thin brown head that dissipated quickly, but left lots of fine spotty lacing. Aromas were roasty dark malts, chocolate, molasses, licorice, prunes, oak, vanilla and a light char. Tastes like what you'd expect from the aroma, roasty, chocolate, prunes, plum, molasses, licorice, oak, vanilla and some light ash. Creamy, full bodied with soft carbonation. Overall, nice enjoyable sipper, with good balance of roast, dark fruit and light sweetness.

UPDATED: JAN 26, 2018 Opaque black beer with a medium dark brown head. Medium aroma; taste starts medium/heavy sweet and ends slightly bitter and dry. Loads of vanilla, dark fruit, chocolate and roasted malts. Very complex beer.

A bit to much licorice here for my likings. Also roast and vanilla. Full body and a smooth carbonation level. A beer for sharing

Thnx to the antwerp Untappd crew ! Pours black, small to nearly no head. Smell is bit peated almost. Oak, booze. Roasted malts. Taste is heavy roasted, to a nearly peated aspect ( I dont think of actual peat after having tasted the beer ) . Nice thick, roasty ending. More boozy aspects.

11%ABV. Imperial stout. Poured Out black. Nose has dark stone fruit, dates, honey, treacle. Mouthfeel is juicy. Palate has roasty sweet flavors. Toasted barley, honeyed dates, Woody bitter. Overall, i love this one so very much because of the velvety smooth palate and mouthfeel, as opposed to another 8 wired favorite, which is the Bumaye which had a much more aggressive palate. This was hardly boozy and came off more like a good cafe au lait or sweet coffee. Goes on Favorites List!
