COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In the early 1900s, the village of De Panne, close to the French border, was famous for two things -- the ‘Pannepots,’ or fishing boats, that could be seen along the coast, and the unique dark ale enjoyed by the local fishermen. Our Old Fisherman’s Ale is a tribute to these hardy sailors and their rich, flavorful brew. Unfiltered. Unpasteurized. Bottle-conditioned in 33cl and 75cl.

UPDATED: DEC 24, 2022 From bottle (2020 vintage) in Belgian ale glass. Pours dark brown w/reddish edges, thin tan head that settled into ring. Roast malt aroma morphs into dark fruits, spice and tobacco. Rich & tasty, some tart cherry to close.

UPDATED: DEC 27, 2022 Undated 33cl bottle. Pours a deep mahogany with little head, aroma of molasses and yeast. Taste is initially sour liquorice, prunes, balsamic vinegar and Madeira port. Delightful.

DraftDodger (6567) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - NOV 11, 2022
UPDATED: NOV 11, 2022 Copenhagen 11/11 2022. 33 cl bottle from Den Belgiske Ølbutik, Jyllingevej, Vanløse. Painting of a fisherman’s boat on the label. A 2015 edition. Pours opaque murky dark brown with a small beige head. Bubbly. Disappears after a few seconds leaving meagre remnants of foam behind. No lacing. Aroma is fairly intense with a dark boozy sweet odor mingling with sourish and sharp notes. Brown sugar in abundance, toffee, plum. Dark rum. Sour grains. Hints of tart currants. Light carbonation. Slightly thick, oily, soft, lightly tingling texture. Flavor is intense with a medium strong sweetness followed by a more moderate tart bitterness. Aftertaste is sweet with a light tart undertone. A bit searing. Lingering. Finish is semi-dry. Potent and boozy - with a tart touch.

UPDATED: JUN 30, 2022 Brown sugar. Plum. Candied fruit. Very dark brown with a thin light tan head that fades quickly. Chewy. Toffee. Brown sugar. Bready. Fruit cake. Booze. Lingering thick bready mouthfeel. This is really damn good.

ianwelby (3508) - Hamilton, SCOTLAND - APR 15, 2022
UPDATED: APR 15, 2022 2021 Vintage: Dark, reddish-brown with a thin tan head. Smells of caramel with some sweet spice and a bit of the booze. Flavour follows suit. Caramel, toasty malt, dried fruit, some spice and a good whack of boozy warmth around a body of reasonable richness. Tastes its strength so it demands respect. Very tasty, and with a nice warm, spicy, boozy finish.

GlenPiWi (527) - Vilvoorde, BELGIUM - APR 15, 2022
UPDATED: APR 15, 2022 Vintage 2020. Pours dark brown with a red hue, beige tiny head, little carbonation. Caramel and spices on the nose. Medium mouthfeel, caramel, chocolate, spices. The spicyness is really something special and an acquired taste. Good though, expected a but more complexity, but that will come from ageing. Will surely do that.
