COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In the early 1900s, the village of De Panne, close to the French border, was famous for two things -- the ‘Pannepots,’ or fishing boats, that could be seen along the coast, and the unique dark ale enjoyed by the local fishermen. Our Old Fisherman’s Ale is a tribute to these hardy sailors and their rich, flavorful brew. Unfiltered. Unpasteurized. Bottle-conditioned in 33cl and 75cl.

MicroGrog (2752) - Asheville, North Carolina, USA - JUN 2, 2023
UPDATED: JUN 2, 2023 Third De Struise beer I've seen on tap during my little visit to Orlando. Draft @RLRL. Cola pour, big oatmeal head, stemware. Clove, licorice, toast, diet cola nose. Taste is cola, clove, some licorice, maybe some other spice, but it's so bland & nothing compared to my bottle experience. Tried to warm it up, but it just wasn't there.

Monty27 (355) - GERMANY - MAR 20, 2023
UPDATED: MAR 20, 2023 This is beer. I got a bottle from 2021. There was not a lot of carbonation, the colour an attractive pitch black. Sweet raisin aroma, but also something heavier, earthing. Great blend of tastes, a real mouthful and almost oily. Licorice is strongest, but also raisin sweetness, coffee and a bit of dark chocolate. A decent hop bitterness in the background to make it perfect.

DraftDodger (7329) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - NOV 11, 2022
UPDATED: NOV 11, 2022 Copenhagen 11/11 2022. 33 cl bottle from Den Belgiske Ølbutik, Jyllingevej, Vanløse. Painting of a fisherman’s boat on the label. A 2015 edition. Pours opaque murky dark brown with a small beige head. Bubbly. Disappears after a few seconds leaving meagre remnants of foam behind. No lacing. Aroma is fairly intense with a dark boozy sweet odor mingling with sourish and sharp notes. Brown sugar in abundance, toffee, plum. Dark rum. Sour grains. Hints of tart currants. Light carbonation. Slightly thick, oily, soft, lightly tingling texture. Flavor is intense with a medium strong sweetness followed by a more moderate tart bitterness. Aftertaste is sweet with a light tart undertone. A bit searing. Lingering. Finish is semi-dry. Potent and boozy - with a tart touch.
