33cl bottle picked up from De Molen bottleshop in Bodegraven in 2016 and poured into a snifter on 22-Apr-2017. Dark brown, almost black in colour with a small beige coloured head. Aroma of peat, coffee, cocao nibs and pine. Full body and soft carbonation. Taste is medium sweet. Earthy, with the Aardberg barrels bringing a heavy peaty smokiness to the nose and taste. Treacle, caramel, dark chocolate, malt, coffee and light bitterness. Smoky and woody finish. The barrel aging completely changes the complexity and feel of this beer. Excellent. Draft @ Brouwcafe de Molen. Pours a pitch black beer with a small off white head on top. Aroma has loads of smokey whisky notes, some roast in the background, and a very light acidic note in the background. Smoke is strong in this one however. Flavour is quite sweet and completely different than the ones I had when it was younger. The Brett settled nicely into the background giving it more rounded, slightly acidic notes of red fruits. The whisky is overwhelming this beer in a nice way, balancing out the Brett perfectly. Way better than the ones I had from bottle and keg 9 months before. Awesome stuff. Bottle at home. Black pour, thin tan head. Aroma is intense brett, iodine, peat, whisky, roasted malts and caramel. Flavor is quite bitter, slightly sour, bretty and heavily peated. Intense but still subtle. Beastly and likable.
