33cl bottle at home. Hazy dark brown with a small tan head. Medium body with low carbonation. Medium sweetness with subtle bitter tones. Subtle sweet and bitter tones. Roasted malts, caramel, subtle rum tones, coffee and brown sugar. OK, but I’ve expected a tad more for such a fancy package.

Maakun (6582) - The Hague, NETHERLANDS - APR 6, 2017
Fancy bottle pre-birthday-celebration. Black with light brown head. Some red grapes, dried berries, chalk, granite, quite some licorice, coffee, light dust, cocoa, light marzipan and booze, soft soap, vanilla and old wood. Medium sweet and bitter. Over medium bodied with slick feel and low carbonation. It’s ok, but not worth the price they ask for it. Also I don’t get much rum here...

330ml bottle. Pours dark brown colour, big thich golden-beige head leaves lacing. Dark chocolate, malts, wood, sugary sweetness, dark rum, hints of smokiness in aroma. Taste is bittersweet chocolatey, woody, bit ashy, dark rum, roasty. Aftertaste is hoppy, tannin, bitter, warming alcholy. Full bodied, average carbo. Well balanced stout, I especially like this long bitter hoppy aftertaste.

(Tanker Must Kapten - Rum BA) Bottle 330ml at home, served into a snifter and tasted side to side with the Wine BA version. ABV 9.4%
Black coloured body, almost a finger of thick beige head, average retention, not different than the red wine version as far as appearance is concerned.
Aroma of chocolate, brown sugar, light roasted malts, rum.
Taste is sweet with wood, cork, light roasted malts -more notable on the finish-, just a hint of rum and barrel ageing character, sugars.
Medium thin body, soft carbonation.
Better than the red wine version but still not great, either those barrels were used way too much or the beers didn’t spend that much time in there.

[email protected] Krone - dark beer under a long lasting dark beige foam; nice lace; toasted and light woody aroma of chocolate and nuts with hints of apparent alcohol; pretty sweet and creamy palate; a solid and late earthy bitterness with long notes of chocolate and hazelnuts

agent_persik (783) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - JAN 8, 2017
Black colour, small head. Aroma of roasted malt, dark fruits and berries, coffee, chocolate, oak, rum, black bread. Sweet bitter taste with light sourness and subtle saltiness, bitter roasty finish and aftertaste. Medium to full body, soft carbonation. Nice imperial stout, quite drinkable.

On tap at Erzbierschof Zürich. Completely black with some head, dissipates quickly though. Aroma is intense, lots of dark malts and strong dark chocolate. Cherries and dark berries, some sourness. Some oak and some rum coming through. Nice and complex! Flavour: complex and very malty. Chocolate is more subdued in the taste but still there faintly, instead there is some coffee. Some sweetness (especially mouthfeel) but it’s mostly covered by an intense bitterness. Some earthiness is there but mostly the bitterness is astringent without leaving much else. The oak/rum is there in the warming finish. Despite the really astringent bitterness I like this quite a lot.

Tap at Erzbierschof Zurich. Beautiful rum notes over mostly chocolate with some vanilla and coffee aroma. Gives a nice twist to your typical BAIS. Lighter than others, but of course still not the easy beer. Sweet and sugary, but that works well with this beer. Leaves a long bitter aftertaste.
