Hazy golden beer, bubbly white head. Smells of malt, tropical fruit and slightly bready. Taste is sharper. Tangy orange, bitter grapefruit. Hoppy and there’s a really strong bittersweet orange aftertaste, but it’s crisp and refreshing where it could have been sweet and sickly and claggy at the back of your mouth. Dunno what resemblance it bears to your standard premium bitter but it’s smashing all the same.

Alengrin (5562) - BELGIUM - MAY 21, 2017
Bottle from De Hopduvel, from this interesting new To Öl series. Irregularly lacing, snow white, moussy head, cloudy straw blonde robe with warm peachy hue. Fruity, very vivid and evidently citrusy aroma of passion fruit juice, strong lime flesh, orange peel, pink grapefruit, elderflowers, rainwater, soggy bread, yellow raisins, home-made lemonade, tangerine, fermenting hay and dough. Extremely fruity, lush onset, lots of lime sourishness against passionfruit and mandarin sweetness, guava, rambutan, soft and fluffy, smooth mouthfeel. Bready malt middle section buried underneath ongoing tropical citrus fruit lusciousness, lime-like, ’fresh’ and real citrus sourishness more pronounced in the finish but utterly refreshing, New World citrusy hop aspects highlighted by the actual citrus fruit used, providing a late bitter ’kiss’ but not disturbing the overall juiciness and fraîcheur of this beautiful little beer. Apparently intended as an ESB with which this obviously has little to nothing in common - if anything, this is a full-fledged NEIPA enhanced by actual - and very explicit - citrus effects.

DuffMan (10560) - the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, CANADA - FEB 1, 2017
Bottle. Very hazy translucent orange with a massive white head. Bold citrus peel and yeast, lots of yeast actually, with lean malts and a very bitter finish. This is not even remotely close to an ESB. As a Belgian strong ale, it’s not bad though.

Bov (13004) - Bienne, SWITZERLAND - JAN 30, 2017
from Erzbierschof - hazy golden blond beer with a moderate foam left; solid aroma of tangerines and oranges; light yeasty, juicy and gently sourish; a good malt backbone, long tart and juicy finish of tangerines and apricots; some sweetness
