Sampler at Big Dog’s Brewery. Very spicy and sweet with bold malty overtones through the sip. Seemingly sweet for a barleywine, but nice overall.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Tasted on tap at the 2007 Pizza Port Strong Ale Festival. This Barley Wine pours a hazy and muddy medium brown color. Medium to small sized white foamy head. Aroma is fruity and sweet, caramel and malty. A medium bodied barley wine. Malts are fruity, caramel and sweet. Hops are earthy and mild. A touch sweet and perhaps a little thin tasting. This one is more in the English style of barley wine. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: FEB 18, 2017 The 2017 version is 10.7 so it could possibly be entered so a different beer but I was quite underwhelmed by this. Alcohol is obvious. Some molasses flavors but just not that good.
Original 4.1 Pretty decent. A little light caramel/molassess flavor up front. Hops are dominant in the finish. Mostly an okay beer, nothing spectacular.
