Sampled from tap at ’Craft Beer Corner’. Slightly hazy, golden yellow with a frothy, white head. Sweetish, fruity-grassy aroma of mango, passion fruit and orange. Sweetish, fruity-grassy taste of lemongrass, pineapple, mango and passion fruit, followed by a medium long, rather dry-bitter, grassy finish. Draft @ Beachwood BBQ and Brewing, Long Beach, CA. Pours a clear golden color with a small white head. Has a fruity malty grassy citrus hoppy aroma. Fruity malty spicy grassy citrus hoppy flavor. On tap at Pizza Port Carlsbad. Tap list clearly indicates which beers during the hop harvest months are made with fresh/wet hops. The fresh hop version of Carlsbad Raceway made waves in the community last year in September, so I went by to see what all the noise was able. I’ll be damned, this version was out of control.
Clear amber gold pour with thick lace. Juicy nose of white grape, chardonnay - nothing in common with regular Raceway. Warming up there is vanilla cake, lemon pound cake. Really is smells divine. Taste is silky and juicy with white grape, cantaloupe, but huge bitterness piles on with a semi-lactic backend. Body is heavier, old school IPA still. There’s that characteristic long, bitter finish. Over time some rustic maltiness, wheat bread crust, cantaloupe rind come through. It’s old school at its roots, but it’s exceptional well done. Old school IPA, but done very well. Honestly, I haven’t had an IPA like this in years.
