[email protected], Copenhagen - Dark Amber brown pour with almost no head. Overt sweet aroma and taste, lashings of dark dried fruit, some caramel, treacle syrup, some sherry notes, prominent resonating sweet boozy into the finish.

Dec. ’16. On tap at Ma Che, Rome. It poured a hazy copper to brown body with almost no head. Vinous aroma, some ripe cherries, dried fruits, white grape skin and touch of wood. Nice. Flavor was of course sweet, dry fruits dominated, along with caramel, sherry, overripe fruit (a bit stale even) and other spices like wood and vanilla beans from somewhere. Medium to full in body, not overwhelming, rather easy going for its high ABV and style. Still warming of course. Finish was lightly tart, but mostly sweet, and followed the flavor pretty much for long. As most of these, excellent to pair with a cigar.

Draft glass @ CML Fontainas. Quite dark amber, big tanned bubbles that quickly disappear. Nose is massively sweet, cough syrup, medicinal, cooked apple, crazily sweet & cloying. Taste is low metallic upfront, heavy oxidation, the Porto lots of it, oddly also getting Sherry, maximum walnut & oak oxidation notes leading into massively sweet boozy sugar, cough syrup, oxidized coffee, very sweet but still not as crazily cloying as the nose. Body lacks some carbonation. Interesting, good but definitely overkill as well.

BKL2017. Cloudy brown, no head. Port, Balsamico, acid, non roasted cocoa nib aroma. Medium body, some fruity sweetness on the palate, low on carbonation. Balsamico base, wood notes, some Oxidation, spicy in the finish, licorice retronasal.

MarcoDL (5022) - NETHERLANDS - MAR 28, 2017
UPDATED: MAR 28, 2017 Draft at Uiltje. Dark red brown-ish color. Aroma has oaky port, red fruit, malt and raisin. Taste is really sweet, with raisin, red fruit, oak, strong booze, subtle caramel and soft bitters in the finish. Heavy on the port, but I like that.

Shared handpump sample @BKL2017 - FR, danke! An interesting feat of closing the gap between barley wine, domestic fortified wine and sweet cherry. Massive sweet sherry in both aroma and flavour, ripe alcohol-moistened mature oak with a meaty texture and rich destilled fruit sugars (Marsala). Rotten stone fruit in there as well, adding a pungency that makes this a slow sipper while the abv remains manageable.

Sampled @ BKL 2017. Leicht trübes orange braunes Bier. Geruch nach reifen roten Früchten, Holz, leicht alkoholisch. Geschmack kräftig malzig, rote Früchte, reifes Obst, alkoholisch.

(cask) hazy amber-ruby colour with almost no head. aroma of brown sugar and raisins, heavily oxidized, with lots of sherry, some earth and rotten apples. flavour is more raisins and sherry, rather ethanolic, with lots of vanilla icing, some fudge and a tart orange peel finish. heavy-bodied with very soft carbonation.
