11/14/2016 -- from notes: 12oz can, BB15OCT2018. From Dutch's. Cardamom spiciness is noticeable up front. Initially not over-the-top, as I was enjoying it with my sandwich, but it comes off a bit strong for me without the food. It's kind of like an exotic black peppery / mild curry-like flavor, pretty nice with the rest of the beer for the first half... Coffee, dark chocolate, a little vanilla. Something like cinnamon. Moderate sweet taste, lighter bitter. Mild spiciness. Black color. Thin khaki head. Good spread of lace. Medium to bigger body, good full feel. Mild slick texture. Lighter carbonation. Interesting, solid coffee imperial porter. Only thing hinting at the alcohol is a some sweetness of the malt body. Solid, fun to try once, but not something I'd want to revisit. Probably a better one to split a can of. Coffee aspect is my favorite part, but only does so much. ajnepple (7684) - Lakewood, Colorado, USA - DEC 28, 2017
12 oz single can from Hy Vee Wine & Spirits - Muscatine. Black appearance with a light brown head. Aroma of coffee, cocoa, mild spice, light roasted malt and a light earthiness. Similar flavor, rich, dark, malty and spiced with a lingering finish. Nice. kepano (287) - Los Angeles, California, USA - DEC 2, 2017
Pours a nearly opaque black with dense layer of light brown foam. Beautiful coating of lace around the glass. Rich inviting aroma of milk chocolate, nougat and caramel. Smells like a chocolate candy bar. On the palate – wow – I've never tasted anything like this before. Starts with milk chocolate, vanilla custard, and progresses quickly into a burst of coffee and pumpernickel bitterness accompanied by spices, presumably the fabled black cardamom. The aftertaste is quite unusual, a lingering bitterness on the tongue that I can't quite place. The 10% alcohol is well hidden but a feeling of warmth sets in as I drink this brew. This brew is less complex than one might expect, but well balanced. sjorsvdg (625) - NETHERLANDS - NOV 24, 2017
Can pour opaque black with large tan head. Nose dark roast coffee, spice, and get the cardamom. Tatse mineral chocolate, dark chocolate, light Indian spice. I like the progression. Could have thicker mouth feel.
