COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This year, 17 winemakers convened in late August to help create the blend for XX. As always, they were tasked with creating their own preferred blends, with all of these initial blends later being blind tasted on the group. After votes were cast, the blend by Scott Hawley of Torrin Vineyard was deemed the winner and became the basis for XX.

“It’s always a friendly but competitive gathering,” Brynildson said. “Collectively, the winemakers’ input is invaluable, because they are practicing experts in the art of blending.”

With XX, this proven process yielded a beer for the ages. “There is just so much going on in this beer,” Brynildson said. “It’s big and complex, with all of these different facets from our barrel-aged program that are so seamlessly integrated. We wanted to produce something really special for our 20th anniversary, and I think we did it.”

The Final Blend:
Parabola / Aged in New Oak and Bourbon Barrels / 40% of Final Blend
Stickee Monkee / Aged in Bourbon and Brandy Barrels / 20% of Final Blend
Velvet Merkin / Aged in Bourbon Barrels / 17.5% of Final Blend
Bravo / Aged in Bourbon Barrels / 12.5% of Final Blend
Helldorado / Aged in Bourbon Barrels / 10% of Final Blend

UPDATED: OCT 14, 2019 Pours inky black and needs a vigorous pour to form a compact tan head that dissipates quickly; wonderful aromas of port and vanilla and oak and burnt sugar on the nose; silky mouthfeel with deep, complex, and lengthy finish.

UPDATED: JAN 6, 2019 12/24/18 (Las Vegas): Anniversary XX Firestone Walker bottled 10/11/16, shared the bomber with brother David as his gift, poured into snifter glasses. Black pour with light tan head. Light bourbon aroma, roasted malts as well. Bourbon the predominant taste, wine, dark chocolate and roasted malt round the very balanced taste out. Light, sweet mouth feel, somewhat creamy, easy drinking. Overall very good offering, thanks for sharing!

Bottle: Poured a dep burgundy color ale with a large brown head with OK retention and some light lacing. Aroma of light roasted malt and black chocolate notes with some pretty intense woody notes and vanilla and bourbon notes also clearly distinguishable. Taste is a complex and immensely enjoyable mix of woody notes with some vanilla and bourbon, some black chocolate notes with light residual sugar notes and light alcohol warming notes. Body is pretty full with good carbonation with some alcohol notes apparent. Another great anniversary beer from this fine brewery.

Bomber bottle poured, picked up fresh, and held onto until a random Tuesday arrived. A rediculously smooth blend here. Dark brown appearance, bourbon constant, tons of oak character. Dark fruit that's not seeet or boozy. Tons going on with this. An exceptional sipper, though it doesn't have to be. It drinks easy for it's potency. Late lingering bourbon, oak, raisin, and just a touch of chocolate. A nice cross between. Barley wine and imperial stout. All these anniversary brews are great, but this might be one of my favorites yet.

Bottle picked up from Belmont Station at a slight premium. Worth it. A: Mahogany body, cappuccino head, lacing. N: Red licorice, caramel, toffee, toast, charred brown sugar, agave, some peppercorns, pine, and rosemary. Clove, anise, and molasses. Roundabout coffee and earthiness. Barrel, vanilla, and wood. Touch of brandy and liquor-soaked cherry as it warms. T: Quite sweet and a bit spicy. Lots of licorice and huge honey, brown sugar, and caramel. Bit of toastiness and coffee roast. M: Medium heavy body, light alcohol, quite sticky, tingly carbonation. O: Very rich beer. Intense blend of barrel and base. Glad I got a chance to try it.
