Bottle, at Apotekergaarden. A tripel at the higher end of the ABV scale, weighing in at 11%. Was expecting a rather boozy nose then, but it’s not bad at all. There’s some of course, but it’s fruityness that runs the show. Black pepper, yeast hints, grass and a generic tropical fruit scent chimes in. The mouthfeel is quite warming, but the flavor doesn’t feel boozy though, as the aroma it’s mostly on the fruity side, with a generic fruityness, some citrus zest and tropical fruityness, black pepper, freshly mown grass and yeast. And a fine bitterness. It’s full-bodied and appropriately carbonated, dryish, yet with a residual sweetness that is far, far from cloying or tongue coating. Guess the bitterness and alcohol helps preventing that. Lasting fruityness dominated finish. In my eyes, the name of the beer could just as well be Triple, instead of Hoppy Triple. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s hopped more heavily than is normal for a triple, but that isn’t very noticeable. Anyway, it is a really fine brew that I’d love to repeat. 170202
