COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Literally "dark wheat beer", it is made from the same wheat malt and yeast as the Weissbier plus a little something which gives a more pronounced malty aroma and flavor. Dunkel is chocolate dark with a first hint of sweetness, but a dry finish.

Bottle at Atlas Beer Cafe in Queenstown. Pours a rich brown color with a medium tan head. Aroma of banana, melon, spices, yeast, hops, malt, and caramel. The flavor has an additional level of complexity, with banana, spices, yeast, melon fruits, hops, caramel, chocolate, sugar, malt, and vanilla. Well-balanced, rich, sweet, and just a little bitter late. Light-medium bodied. Excellent, probably the best dunkelweizen I’ve ever tried.

This beer really is a unique stunner. Another great Emerson’s weiss! Fun food options like brunch pancakes, pistachios and roast veges. Leans toward the sweet and softens as it warms. Fantastic. Aroma: sweet golden kiwifruit, lemon drops, chewy caramel lollies with a sour, lactic, subtle bananery spicy yeast. A large billowy "French vanilla" head over a cloudy, almost opaque rusty brown. taste is sweet and sour: fried bananas, faint kiwifruit, milk choc / mild-med choc or cocoa under with earthy yeastiness. The body begins prickly on the tongue - age may assist. Gulps of med-full, quenching satisfaction. I’d serve this beer to anyone!

Bottle. At last I get to try this elusive beer! Pours a dark hazy brown with golden highlights and a medium golden head of fine bubbles. Estery aroma of wheat, chocolate and banana. Sweet wheaty palate with flavours of chocolate, banana, and bubblegum. Perfect carbonation and medium body. An excellent dunkelweizen.

Pours rich chocolate colour with a fat latte coloured head that thins a little bit persists to the bottom of the glass. Clove and banana on the nose, no hint of the dark malt which i fancy is chocolate. Soft chocolate and banana wheat waves of flavour and the palate is velvet, soft and silky like a silk chemise on a girl you want. Gorgeous really. This is the 2009 version - 6.3% abv and very nice for it

UnholyBrewing (596) - Central Florida(Upper Hell), Florida, USA - APR 2, 2009
...had it at the Purvis beerfest. Nice dark and hazy color, with a big off-white head that lasted. Roasted malt, wheat, and yeasty flavors, with some spice, and hints of chocolate. Clove, and hints of nutmeg in the finish. Tasted bigger than it is, finished roasty with some caramel, a good brew, these guys know how to do it.

sdriessen (320) - Dunedin, NEW ZEALAND - DEC 31, 2008
Cloudy dark brown with a tan head that lowers quickly. Chocolaty malt aroma with apricot, banana, caramel and some yeast. Some mild hops in there. Flavours of milk chocolate malt and ripe banana. Caramel, with a hint of licorice. Some fruity plum tones. A clean mouthfeel, yet creamy. Rather watered down flavours, but overall very nice. Finishes with a mild hoppy bitterness and caramel.
