COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is a traditional English old ale and very true to type. A strong beer, full bodied with an initial deceptive sweetness, but with hops enough to give a dry finish. It is definitely a beer to be savoured rather than quaffed. It slips down like velvet and makes an ideal partner for rich fruitcake and similar seasonal fare. Available August.

Beautiful persistent foam. The aroma is rich and revealing good malt and a little hop. The taste has light floral touch and crisp caramel malt. In addition, a luscious shade of flower with light taste of alcohol. An ale with great richness.

I have had this before along time ago and then one night staying with a beer writing friend of mine, whose collection of aged beers is the best I have ever seen, brought out this bottle. It had five years of age on and released malt-driven flavours with sherry, orange peel and grain. It was sweet without being cloying and ended a night of remarkable beers by punching well within its weight. Grand.

[email protected] 2008. Slightly hazy orange colour with a small white head. Aroma is candysugar, some sweet malts, mild grains and a bit herbal. Flavour is grass, candysugar, mild alcohol sweetnes along with some toffee. Quite bitter finish.

Orange i färgen med vitt skum. Doftar malt, apelsin, citrus, gräs, karamell, lite godissötma. Smakar friskt av apelsin, söt karamellmalt, citrus, gräs. Fin bäska rakt igenom och bitter avslutning.

Pours dark amber with a small head. Loads of sweet malt and oats on the nose, along with soft hints of spiced orange marmalades, golden syrup, pancakes and maple syrup. Similarly sweet flavours, more oatmeal, pancakes and golden syrup. Unfortunately there’s a fair whack of alcohol in the finish. Very soft carbonation could be higher, body could be thicker and more syrupy.

From a 500ml bottle on 8/4/2011. Pours a dark golden orange colour with a decent head. Has a pleasant aroma of sweet caramel malt and brown sugar. The flavour is pretty much the same, with some toffee and marmalade thrown in. The malty sweetness is quite pronounced, but it has enough hops at the end to balance things out nicely. The palate is quite creamy. All up, this a very enjoyable, well put together ale.

500ml bottle, vintage 2010 320A. Clear rich amber hue, very large light beige foamy head slowly settles to a small creamy head, excellent lacing. Very nice diverse mixture of aromas - malty, caramel, butterscotch, smokey, woody, marmalade, chocolate, Christmas cake, spice, yeast, vanilla. Tastes nice - moderate to strong sweet, moderate bitter, a faint touch of sour. Smooth and velvety, softly carbonated, oily creamy sticky texture, long bitter slightly astringent finish. Very nice indeed. Had the last few mouthfuls with some Christmas cake and yummmm, great food match.

2010 Vintage in Bottle on release. Lovely warm malty notes with orange marmalade and clove. Lovely bright fresh hop notes.
