COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Redoak Baltic Porter has been brewed true to style and is a rich tasting beer with a velvet smoothness on the palate, a burnt currant fruitiness, followed by a warmth embrace of alcohol. This beer style originated in Russia for Catherine the Great in the Royal Court in the 17th century. David first tasted a Baltic porter in 1994 in a small café in Poland and no-one seemed to know what it was. Internationally, it was a lost style until discovered by Michael Jackson (the Beer expert) in 1997.

Opaque black - brown beer. Residual tan head. Smooth palate with fine mild carbonation. Smooth dark malt with mild lactose sweetness. No roast or bitterness. Aniseed, violets and red berry fruits as well! Finishes smooth. Very easy drinking - slips down effortlessly.

big, rich malts some chocolate and roast. Very good complexity. Well underpinned with an appropriate level of fizz.

Bottled @ cgarvieuk’s Need some Cupboard Space tasting. Brown ruby red colour, bit of tan bubbles. Nose is slight roasted malts, vanilla, bit of coffee. Flavour is light roasted malts, coffee, bit of ash. Medium bodied. Roasty finish.

Bottle at cgarvieuk tasting. Dark brown/copper pour. Nice fruity/liquorice nose. Sweet oily palate, some aniseed, treacly malts. Short, sweet finish. Bit thin and too sweet for me.

Bottle @ Craig Garvie. Sweet chocolate malt aroma. Dark brown colour, not much head. Very strong sweet sickly chocolate coffee flavour. Sour treacle aftertaste. Not my thing.

Thanks Craig for sharing this bottle. Pours a dark red colour with a lacy beige head. Aroma of plums, raisins, alcohol and oak. Reminds me of spicy mead. Alcohol quite present. Flavours of raisins again, sake yeast character. Chewy mouth-feel. Lovely.

bottle at home ... from my GBBF 2011 haul ... deep brown ... thin tan lacing ... soft sweet honey toffee nose ... rich yeasy malts (like the stuff i got as a kid) ... sweet malts ... big roast ... light spice ... little too marmite for me.

Black brown with minimal tan lacing and aroma of booze soaked rasins. Initial burst of chocolate then currants and alcohol take over followed by roast malts, a hint of lactose. Alcohol numbs the tongue otherwise is not detectable, fairly sweet but also dry. Gentle cabonation.

250ml bottle aging in the cellar. Some chocolate, prunes and sweet currants both on the nose and across the palate. Very soft carbonation. delightful beer - only fault is it’s a touch sticky sweet rather than allowing some of the rawness from the dark malts shining through.

tmoreau (9894) - Lombard, Illinois, USA - DEC 26, 2010
250 ml bottle poured to my SA lager glass, with a very dark, brown hue, a thin amount of dark tan, bubbly foam that diminished rather quickly, and a small amount of light dots and dashes for lacing. The aroma was malty sweet, with a little vanilla and caramel, light roastiness, cocoa, dark fruit as raisin, and almost a little sherry like nature. The flavor added some warming alcohol, but low carbonation, and syrupy texture, in a medium to full body. Snifter worthy, and fairly solid Baltic.
