COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

Alengrin (7412) - BELGIUM - AUG 27, 2018
The standard IPA from what is basically the founder of the new Swedish craft beer movement, from a bottle bought at some food stall in Stockholm. Thick, cobweb-lacing, egg-white, irregularly edged moussy head on a cistal clear, warm 'metallic' orange blonde beer with very lively sparkling rising up from the bottom. Aroma clearly pasteurized (freshly ironed cloth-like smell), interfering a bit too much with more pleasant notes of dried old bitter herbs, dried orange peel, soggy cereals, hard caramel candy, flour, peanuts, Angostura bitter, toast. Cleanish onset, apple peel note with a very restrained sweetishness, fizzy carbonation, medium-bodied, minerally edged peanutty and toast crust-like maltiness, quite cereally in its general feel but soon bittered by a dried-herbal, quinine-like, peppery hoppiness, dried bitter herbs and tonic water, long and matching well with the peanut and toast character of the malts - but lacking in the retronasal aromatics one expects from a present-day IPA. In that sense very old school: an English style IPA the way even the Americans made them in the end of the previous century, but pleasantly bitter and malty; probably not something all those young NEIPA-hipsters of today would enjoy, but who cares.
