Beese (17142) - Tooting, London, Greater London, ENGLAND - DEC 6, 2019Cask at La Gothique, Wandsworth in 2013. Clear deep ruby with a rocky offwhite head. Aroma of big dark fruit, prunes, raisins, caramel, plum pudding. Incredibly smooth mouthfeel. Sweet, but not saccharine; this continues to be one of those beers that doesn’t really have any piers. It’s super interesting and quite mooreish.
Martinsh (2837) - Crewe, Cheshire, ENGLAND - SEP 13, 2019UPDATED: SEP 13, 2019 Cask at Great Western, Wolverhampton
I can’t believe I’ve not rated this before ! Nose is unremarkable – just some hints of porridge. Pours a rich ruby brown with a small cream head, and good lacing. Taste is a bittersweet conglomerate that is hard to define. More and more flavours come to the fore as it progresses through the mouth. Hazelnuts, liquorice, blackcurrant, raisins, figs, all with a full-bodied malty base to them. A wonderfully complex beer – the classic strong mild that all others (ought to) seek to emulate. It doesn’t get much better than this.
