COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bourbon Barrel-Aged Imperial English-style Ale Originally one of Peter Zien’s homebrew recipes, Private Stock Ale has become AleSmith’s most award-winning beer. Each year we reserve a small amount of this once-a-year offering to age in select bourbon barrels. The result is an extremely complex brew that showcases rich flavors of caramel, molasses, toffee, vanilla, and dried fruit. Our critically acclaimed Private Stock Ale is hardy and complex all on its own. But after lengthy hibernation in wood barrels which formerly housed bourbon whiskey, lovely accents of vanilla, toasted oak, and dark caramel meld together making this standout beer all the more extraordinary.

ABUSEDGOAT (3722) - California, USA - OCT 5, 2018
Brown colored with a tan head. Aroma of caramel, brown sugar, vanilla, bourbon, dried fruit, alcohol, creamy. Full bodied, alcohol present, balance is slightly off, as I remember it being with the regular version of this beer. Alesmith is so damn reliably solid that it sucks when there's a beer like this in their lineup. I've had quite a few of their BA offerings and this lacks the finesse and quality of something like BA Numbskull, Wee Heavy, or Speedway. Happy to have tried once, but once is enough.

coachd (1989) - O'Fallon, Missouri, USA - SEP 8, 2018
Sweet toffee-like bourbon barrel aroma with some traces of the base beer. Great dark brown/reddish color. Sweet with a kick of oak and bourbon harshness and a hot finish. Interesting palate, fizzy for this type of beer yet still mouth coating and thick. Very strong and unique. I highly recommend if you can get your hands on it. I pre-ordered mine online and picked it up at the brewery.

Pours a nice mahogany from a bottle, short khaki head dissipates quickly. Aroma is a figgy pudding, swimming in brown sugar and bourbon, similar flavor. Good beer.

Dogbrick (17304) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - MAY 17, 2018
Sample from 2017 batch at Anvil & Stave. The beer is a cloudy brown-black color with a medium foamy tan head that diminishes gradually to a film. Patchy lacing. Aroma of bourbon, roast malt, fruit and vanilla. Full-bodied with flavors of bourbon, oaky vanilla, ripe fruit and caramel malt. The finish is oaky with a bourbon and malt aftertaste. Good beer all around.
