COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A strong Belgian brown ale.
After extensive tasting, trying to fulfil increasingly strict requirements, the brewmaster obtains a creamy, dark Belgian brown ale: Kasteelbier. The quality of the past is still unmatched and the beloved taste is very much of the present. Kasteelbier is a dark, artisanal beer, soft and mild, full and creamy. It can age for many, many years, as indicated on the bottle. 11% abv, serve at 12°C (54°F) (Translation by Martinus)

(backlog and new, BL sampler 2017) - Bref: cassonade-powered booziness with a hollow, mildly roasted barleycore: this barleyport of a concoction does not stop suggesting full-fledged sweetness, yet offers little in terms of naturally full flavours, landing it at a distilled spirit-like sweetness, a trademarkt of many Kasteelbieren. Thin notes of: chestnut, cassonade and caramel coating, spent Nescafe grounds, jenever...Unlike the Cuvee du Chateau it does not have the advertised creaminess and holds a CO2 level far above what I need in a 11% boozer. - Unzeitgemäß and borderline provincial in its pseudo-refined booziness.

15/07/2017 - 33cl bottle @ Beau’m, Kortrijk. Dark brown with big head. Nose is malty, caramel, port, boozy. Taste is malts, caramel, hints of port. Less sweet than I remembered it. Very easy (drinking) for this ABV.

It is delicious at firt. But at the and it is too sweet. It could be more dry.

I located a 750 ml bottle of this on a beer run in H-Town earlier this year. Saved until the right time, this must be it. The cork was a struggle but that’s all right. Into my New Belgium tulip glass it comes out a very dark body with just a hint of red around the edges. The foam is a persistent, finely-bubbled tan. An attractive nose, I detect banana, bubble gum and mango. Finally a sip, hmm, sweeter than I expected. But that is not necessarily a bad thing. Here is dark cherry, chocolate, some malty yeastiness, ripe plum. A great fullness. Lightly bitter with the alcohol hanging around in the background. Truly fine. Donker, I will be back.

Looks grand. Aroma: dark berries and sweet caramel. Taste is similar with Christmas spices, sultanas and something vanilla-like. Nice, creamy mouth-feel. It is not really my type of beer, but it is great nonetheless.

Dark amber color with medium brownish head. Raisins, dried fruit, caramel. Sweet creamy taste. Strong and full body. You can feel that strong alcohol content, but in strongness and warmth in aftertaste, rather than in taste itself.

very dark, almost roasted taste. The 11 percent is noticable in taste but adds a new dimension to the beer. It’s not stingy, it’s very mild and pours in quite quickly. I like a colder kasteelbeer than 12 degrees celcius. It has a mildbitteraftertaste.
