Traditional look. Slightly cloudy deep chestnut color, huge cream-colored foam. Great scent. Raisins, tiny hops, tiny roasted malt. Test card. Belgianly sweet, raisins. Tiny sour fruity aftertaste. Carbonation hit. High alcohol can hardly be felt. Afterwards, of course, yes :) Delicious dessert beer.
Tradicionális küllem. Kissé zavaros mély gesztenye szín, hatalmas krémszínű hab. Remek illat. Mazsolás, pici komló, pici pörkölt maláta. Testes korty. Belgásan édeskés, mazsolás. Pici savanykás gyümölcsös mellékíz. Szénsavasság eltalálva. A magas alkoholt alig érezni. Utólag persze igen :) Finom desszert sör. djoeye (8885) - Tromsø, NORWAY - MAY 12, 2020

UPDATED: MAY 7, 2020 330ml bottle brewed in Belgium at 9%. Coca-cola colour with a nice large head. Aroma of raisin and brown sugar - suggestive of barley wine. Super gentle carbonation with thick creamy mouthfeel (the wheat helps here) gives a luxurious texture, a bit like drinking an Aero bar, especially with the chocolate flavours. Some light woody and raisin notes accompany, but everything is super homogenised (not in a bad way necessarily), so there's no bitterness or tanninic dry quality to it, and a singular smooth and sweet yet not overblown flavour and texture profile is achieved. Brown sugar is noticeable in the taste too. More complex notes develop, hints of leather and molasses, but all very genteel. Very similar to a barley wine stylistically, but thicker, and smoother, and with all roughness taken away. No astringency. It's a pure-velvet luxurious Rolls-Royce of a beer, and although no trace of the 9% is tasteable, it's almost a shame it's so strong, since you could drink as much of this as you cared to, it being rich but not too rich to risk becoming sickly. Exceedingly well-crafted, high quality Belgian strong dark ale. For more interesting results, exercise restraint and tuck it away for ageing. Try -at least- two years ageing (yes, really) to emphasise the vinous qualities and bring out the beer's character. You'd be surprised what a rascal this smooth fellow can become! This one can withstand at least four years before it risks going downhill. I speak from experience. Somewhat fresher, however (this particular bottle was a year old), and you get this genteel, deluxe experience. Well worth the money (but do shop around). A must-try if vintage.
