Batch #200. Extremely peat smoked aged in Islay Scotch barrels. NOT for the un-initiated. IT IS BRUTAL!

Tap at the taproom. Murky dull reddish orange pour with a white head. Peat. The rest, honesty, is depth and details, but this is a peat bomb. Lively carbonation. Terrific.

10 oz. pour, on tap at the taproom of the brewery in Lino Lakes, Minnesota. Consumed on 7-18-17. Hazy, dull copper to medium to dark amber. Small to moderate amount of taupe head. Nice color. Super Islay aroma. Medicinal, peated, iodine, seawater smell. Sweeter in smell than an Islay scotch due to the maltiness, and that detracts. This smells good for a beer, but every Islay scotch smells better. Strawberry scent. Nicely smoky flavor. Dry finish has Islay characteristics. Pretty darn delicious. More generically smoky than specifically Islay smoky, but that’s probably for the best (I love Islay scotch, obviously, but it’s known for a set of flavors that tend not to translate particularly well to beer). Nice, medicinal, smoky, bitter finish. Really friendly and enjoyable underlying beer. Apricot flavor. Strawberry or mango and cream. Nice, dry, burnt-smoky/bitter aftertaste elevates the palate. Medium body, light for the ABV. Frothy in the palate. Not as good as most Islay scotches, but far better than most beers. In beer terms, excellent. 8.4.9.4.17=>4.2

On tap at the brewery. Pours a clear rusty amber with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a great Islay and peat note with a nice smoked meat note and a hint of sweetness. Flavor is a great peat and Islay note with smoke, wood chips and a hint of sweetness.

This one is a tricky one to capture. One hour it’s on draught, the next minute it’s off. Thank goodness for badgerben for being so vigilant and letting me know when I an capture this one. On draught at the brewery taproom in Lino Lakes, Minnesota. Pours a semi-clear amber dark brown colored brew with an above average off-white head that has some excellent retention and lacing. Aroma of so much smoked peat moss that I could have been blind-folded, and was told I was in a Islay distillery in Scotland, and I would have believed him. Taste is full bodied, flavors of smoked peat, light toffee, caramel malt and light vanilla. Finish continues the smoked peat moss, light apple, caramel malt and a hint of juniper. The most heavily peat profiled smoked beer I’ve ever encountered. Well done Hammerheart, well done!

Taproom. Dark, murky copper color with a thin head. Big, peaty aroma with some caramel. Rich malt flavor absolutely burried by peat. Sugestive of salt water, but probably just the barrel talking. Dark caramel. Faint hint of apple. A bit of oak. Fucking glorious.
