COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Grisette style ale aged in wine barrels. Grisettes were originally brewed for the industrial workers similar to how saisons were brewed for the farmhands. Similar in design and purpose; providing sustenance, hydration, and brightened morale. Our Grisette, Scrip, is named after the controversial form of currency used in mining towns, only to be spent at the company store. Scrip was primarily fermented with saison strains and brettanomyces, no sour bacteria was used. After 2 months in stainless, it spent 9 months in oak wine barrels. Crisp and refreshing with notes of tart citrus and pineapple. Pictured below is the company store from historic Eclipse company town right outside of Athens. Owned and operated by the Hocking Valley Coal Company, this structure was built in 1901.

glennmastrange (3552) - hobe sound, Florida, USA - JUL 1, 2021
UPDATED: JUL 1, 2021 Bottle. Moderate hay for the malt, grass and lemon for the hops, light mustiness for the yeast, with damp wood, wine must and over-ripe pineapple in the background. Head is small, fizzy, white, with slippery lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is hazy, light amber. Flavor starts moderately acidic, then finishes lightly acidic and bitter. Palate is on the lighter side of medium, watery, with a fizzy carbonation and a slightly tart finish. Well crafted Grisette...one can tell this is an older beer style. Another one well done by Jackie O's. And I learned about the style just by reading the label!
