COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our most award-winning beer, Robust Porter honors the dark, full-bodied ales that were a favorite of dockworkers and warehousemen (hence the name “Porter”) in 19th century London, where the style originated.
It’s a good bet that when Dickens’ Mr. Pickwick sat down for a pint, his beer would have been very similar to our Robust Porter. This smooth, deceptively drinkable beer features an assertive hop profile which accentuates signature flavors of coffee and dark chocolate.

FACambridge (647) - Chelmsford, Essex, ENGLAND - MAR 27, 2020
UPDATED: MAR 27, 2020 Aroma : Deeply roasted dark chocolate malt, espresso coffee, burnt toast, hint of vanilla with an earthy/fusty note. Taste : As aroma. Fab roasty bitterness throughout, with a little touch of vanilla sweetness. Heavier body than a 'traditional porter'. Very good

UPDATED: NOV 28, 2018 12 oz bottle from Total Wine and More in Short Pump, VA This was truly a pleasure from the first sip to the last swallow. The aroma of chocolate malts, roasted malts and coffee greet you. The rich flavors of this porter are amazing. I am hopeful I can find a six pack of these babies. The porter has a medium body with soft carbonation. The porter finishes cleanly with you coming back for more.

This is my first introduction to Smuttynose, so decided to get the porter which had good ratings....and I was in the mood to try a good affordable porter. This beer has quality, but I dunno if it's top of the line. Has a very dark-near black appearance. Not much of a head, which is a thin mocha color. Lots of coffee going on in the flavor, maybe a little too much for my preference, but a good solid porter overall. For $5.99 a 6'er, Yuengling brews a porter which is a less coffee'd out version and almost half the price...or I'd spend a little more next time and get the Mocha Porter from Rogue which doesn't seem to have as strong a coffee flavor. If you like coffee beers though, this is definitely worth the try.
