Rogue’s annual holiday offering, Santa’s Private Reserve, is a variation of the classic Saint Rogue Red, but with double the hops--including Chinook, and Centennial, and a mystery hop called Rudolph by head brewer John "more hops" Maier! This holiday elixir is brewed with two-row Harrington, Klages and Munich malts, along with Hugh Baird 30-37, Carastan 13-17, and Crystal 70-80 malts, plus free range coastal water and proprietary top-fermenting Pacman yeast.

Not too sure if this classifies as a "strong ale", but seems semi-heavy when drinking. A little bit on the dry side for Rogue, and has a decent hop bite. Reminded me of a hoppier/more bitter version of their dry-hopped Red Ale, without as much of the "red". Also some spice added into the flavor. A good winter-ale.

12oz from saveur, bb 07/2018. - Interesting coincidental co-capping on the same evening as Founders Redankulous RIPA, in many ways the Imperial MidCoast version of this hoppy Westcoast Xmas Amber. - Naively expected a slightly maltier offering for a December Reserve Ale - but as a 5ABV amber ale, this is one clean, hop-shiny offensively WestCoast pedigreed amber/Red Session IPA. - The resinous buildup and reduced grapefruit peel bitters do not ring my Xmas or latenightcap bell, nor do not pair particularly well with blue cheese,- but it's a lovely quencher. Overal -2 for being a bit of a seasonal misnomer for this EU-Continental palate.

Pours a dark red with an off white head. Aroma is hops and caramel malts. Flavour is roasty and toast with hops to back it. Finish is bitter and surprisingly mellow.

From Saveur Biere. In Teku glass. Playing Life is Strange Ep 4. 3 months after bbf date and still a pretty good american amber with strong bitterness. However, I dont find any christmasty character in it

I love real Christmas ale....so i tried this Rogue Santa's 33cl bottle. Pours a dark chestnut color with a thin and fast disappearing tan head. Aroma a pine herbal hops. Flavors also of mostly pine herbal hops and spice. light in body and taste, Rather disappointed with the lack of dimension and complexity on this one. Xmas brews should be more special.

22oz bottle picked up at Whole Foods, Picaddilly (London in 2016 and opened 26-Dec-2017. ABV 5%. Reddish brown colour with a medium sized beige coloured head. Aroma of pine, caramel, dark fruit and malt. Medium body and light/medium carbonation. Taste of sweet malt, toffee, plum, and hops. Light bitterness and heavily hopped - tasty and fruity. Bittersweet finish. Enjoyed this one.

Tap @Small Bar, Bristol. Medium, creamy head, ruby/brown colour, hazy. Aroma: raisins, plums, berries, roasted malts, roasted bread. Lightly bitter with sweet aftertaste. Full body, long finish, soft carbonation. Quite nice and interesting.

Scent of a lot of honey. Malt taste with honey. Okay bitterness that fills the upper part of the mouth forever. An okay beer to drink. Follow me @ Kung av öl @ Facebook for more pictures and ratings.

Gott

Caramel, syrup. The bitterness balance the sweetness well. Lot of taste for the abv
