COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Every year on the 24th of February, the birthday of "Charles the fifth", the Brewery brews the Gouden Carolus "Cuvee of the Emperor" in a limited quantity and with an eye on the highest quality and tradition.

This unique brewing, with only extra fine Belgian hops and with a higher alcohol level, guarantees a better evolution in the time, than the already known Gouden Carolus Classic.

The 75cl bottles are closed with a quality cork. Excellent to store several years. This exceptional ale ages well, developing a refined complexity and intense aromas. With powerful notes of roasted malts, caramel and plums, its surprisingly soft and fruity aroma combines a warm roundness with a refreshing taste. An imperial brew to cherish and enjoy in moderation.

Was 8% abv in 2000-2002, 10% in 2003 and 11% in 2004.

DISCLAIMER: This is a dark beer and the label has a blue diagonal line.

EerieDrinks (858) - Malm, SWEDEN - OCT 21, 2019
UPDATED: OCT 21, 2019 3 finger light beige head. Light lacing. Clear, deep ruby coloured beer. Aroma of whisky, butterscotch, raisins, dried cherries, butter and perfumey plum liqueur. Taste of melted butter, brown sugar, butterscotch, tonkabean, hints of green tea, very light whiskynote, hints of cardemom and a faint green & brown vegetal finish. Mouthfeel is semi-plump with a heavily foamy but medium-low carbonation. Medium-low bitterness. Sugary, sticky sweetness. Too much of it to be honest. Oily coating. Quite drinkable if it weren't for the overdone sweetness. Pretty calm in general. Overall: I was so convinced (somehow) that this beer was an absolute stunner and worthy of the hype that I bought a couple of bottles but it was NOT. Hopefully it's just this vintage and not last years aswell. Buttery, overly sweet without the typical depth I'm used to getting from the style. Dissappointed.

UPDATED: OCT 20, 2019 Kolor ciemno bordowy, ciemno rubinowy, lekko prześwitujący.

Rik smak av plommon, kola o balanserande syrlighet. Lång eftersmak med måttlig beska. Abt/Quadruppel av högsta klass.

UPDATED: SEP 18, 2019 W zapachu sporo aromatów ciemnych, suszonych owoców, daktyli, fig, lekkie aromaty winne, alkohol idealnie ułożony. W smaku średnia pełnia, trochę słodyczy, trochę nut ciemnych, suszonych owoców, dość wyraźny alkohol, wysuszający na podniebieniu, dość wyraźna dziwna nuta jakby żelazista.

UPDATED: SEP 8, 2019 Another high quality Belgium beer.. The colour and the taste is almost similar to the other high quality Belgium beers like 'Chimay blue' 'Gulden draak' ect but i feel this is more sweet and more complete.. First of all the taste is really very nice and satisfied. Plums and caramel everywhere.. And is very rich beer with amazing finish.. The 11% is very well hidden and not distract you like some other beers.. On the other hand the carbonation has a medium profile but is there.. Lastly this beer has and one more benefit.. Is very drinkable and when become hot.. Very important thing to me. I have all the time to enjoy it. Drinking Temperatures:10-12 °C

Saeglopur (3421) - Vienna, AUSTRIA - JUL 19, 2019
UPDATED: JUL 19, 2019 750 ml bottle, 2011 vintage, shared by Sander, thanks! Brownish body, with a small, creamy, beige head. Aroma of toffee, dried fruits, cocoa, brown sugar, some red wine. Tastes similar. Medium, oily mouthfeel, with a low carbonation. Finishes warm, medium sweet, a bit roasty, a bit vinous, with brown sugar, dark fruits, some cocoa. Very nice. Quite heavy and a bit on the sweet side, while very well balance and quite complex. Quadrupel isn't my style, but I still enjoyed this, nice sipper. Score: 7 / 4 / 7 / 4 / 15
