Metalchopz (7072) - Cantley, Quebec, CANADA - SEP 14, 2011Originally rated April 2006. Pours a hazy caramel-amber colour with a creamy-foam off-white head that has decent retention and leaves some rings of foam. Ahhh... very hoppy scent. The mouthfeel is quite light and carbonation is fizzing with tiny bubbles. Again, the hop really shows in the taste. Some mild caramel malt appears in the aftertaste, but quite some bitterness. Seems more like an IPA than a APA, with less caramel then their brew called Cobra, but similar bitterness.
rodenbach99 (4842) - Longueuil, Quebec, CANADA - AUG 30, 2008brown 341ml. bottle, copper with a dense head, nice head retention. thin but good mouth, fruity. little or no aftertaste. nice ordinary pale ale.
Glouglouburp (6103) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - DEC 7, 2007In short: A dry fizzy Session Pale Ale. As drinkable as it is forgettable.
How: Bottle 341ml many times. Most recently I bought all their products because rumours are that they will stop to bobble for an indefinite period of time
The look: Clear golden body with a big white head with low retention.
In long: Fizzy beer with dry citrus and peppery hops. Malts offer very little in terms of caramel or anything. The beer is overall pretty dry. Lots of small aggressive bubbles and a fluffy body. A softer carbonation could have helped. Hops have this dry english-like feeling to them along with more tradition American citrusy hops. Finish is rather long but not very bitter. Finish flavour is dry grass and dried orange with a mild bitterness. The beer started as a so-so product but eventually attained “decent” status by end of 2005. I can’t believe I used to drink that stuff all the time many years ago. So now part of my rotten liver comes from the Golden Heart… what a waste.
AgedOak (99) - Ohio, USA - JUN 28, 2007Hazy golden toned brilliance having a very puffed off white head. My bottle was very carbonated with an enormous amount of bubbles rising to the top and many clinging to the sides. A mild fruity but very hoppy malt flavor to this beer. The aroma was much the same as the taste. A medium bodied beer which was in fact very good and became better as it warmed. By the way my bottle had a way cooler label then is displayed here.
Snoro (306) - Montral, Quebec, CANADA - JAN 4, 2007Sans arrière-goût, sans goût très prononcé, un peu amer. Elle n’a pas une grosse mousse qui dure longtemps.
blankboy (9681) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 31, 2006Bottle courtesy of Viper666. Pours a very bubbly amber-orange with a large lasting off-white head. Aroma’s a little odd, there’s sweet malt, fruit and hops and something else odd I can’t place. I found it got better as it sat for a while (was 5 but I bumped it to 6). Flavour’s much better: malty with a nice amount of hops -- it’s pretty tasty. Medium bodied. I didn’t think I was going to like this very much but it surprised me, it’s really easy to drink and enjoyable.
HogTownHarry (9224) - London (Mitcham), Ontario, ENGLAND - OCT 8, 2006Bottle (341ml). Slightly hazy amber-tinged gold, bubbly, with a massive foamy white lasting head. There’s fruit (pineapple and apricot) in the sweet malty - but very dry - aroma, and light dry hops, but there’s a yeasty sourness to it that just seems wrong somehow. The taste is a little better, tart, sour fruit (like unripe apricots and light ripe grapefruit) and grainy sweet malt, and rather a lot of drop hop (oil) bitterness, yields a slightly sour and bitter finish. Watery body, very astringent and lively mouthfeel, long linger - the sourness is maybe a little out of place, but the taste grew on me as it warmed, like a very mild APA with sour yeasty character to it.
pootzboy (2130) - Ontario, CANADA - SEP 23, 2006Bottle:
Poured a hazed light copper ale in my glass with a decent puffy 2 finger cap that stacked out of the glass and lasted out the whole drink like a rich dessert topping...great lacing, moderate carbonation
Nice nose to this one: sweet citrus and cinnamon over light musty dough.
Insufficient malts, thin mouth feel, bitter one dimensional character with poor balance.
For all the promise of sweet malt in the nose it did not materialize in the flavor...starts sharp and bitter and stays that way to the soft metallic finish.. bittering hops that over power the malts and mask any fruity esters...a shame... this beer had promise in the nose and looks
JorisPPattyn (14270) - Wilrijk, BELGIUM - SEP 1, 2006Orange-amber beer with yellow-amberish, fine & creamy head. Good American hops! Fruit-and hopcake, with a sweet, caramelly underslung. Again hoppy, and a toasted main taste, that tastes completely like a soft pie or cake bottom gone too far. But whereas the nose is frank, the hops unmistakable, the overall flavour is uncertain, fade. More’s the pity, because the base is there. Fruity notes, with grapes, peaches and lychee. MF as from sparkling water, titillating, not fizzy. A bit light in body. Damn. Pity about this dullish basic sweet taste. Then, this is a quaffing ale, not a beer geek staple diet. Txs, Igor.
