yaneck2 (33) - - AUG 25, 2023UPDATED: AUG 25, 2023 2009 edition
Quite sour, quite dark. Intense, complex and quite dense for a sour ale. A lot of aging stuff is going on here - dried fruit, chocolate, dark bread, a little bit of coffee roastyness. Not sweet, a rather dry one.
For a price - the quality is delivered, but honestly I am not a big fan of this beer.
If you are interested - give it a try.
EvNa (4729) - Ede, NETHERLANDS - JUL 15, 2022UPDATED: JUL 15, 2022 Bottle, Aardnon 2009 bottled 18 feb 2016 bb 17 feb 2021. Aged for 7 years on Margaux barrels. Color: Almost black, thin beige head. Aroma: Sweet and tart notes, red wine, caramel, dark fruit Very nice. Taste: .Very complex mix of red wine, dark fruit, dark cherries, caramel (fudge), oak wood, vanilla hints. Moderate to over moderate sweet, light vinuous tartness. Just over medium body, low carbonation. Boozy hints. Great slow sipper. Was expecting overwhelming red wine after seven years of BA but it's very well balanced. Nothing wrong with this one although it's more than a year over BB date. Very thankful I still got a bottle of this great beer after so many years.
josanguapo (5205) - SPAIN - MAY 9, 2021UPDATED: MAY 9, 2021 De Labirratorium. En copa Teku. Con palomitas. Jugando a Ori and the Will of the Wisps. Curiosamente una de las birras de struisse en las que menos esperanzas tenía puestas y de las que más me han gustado. La acidez es comedida, y la malta hace un agradable acto de presencia, especialmente en nariz
egajdzis (9959) - Pennsburg, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 15, 2020UPDATED: NOV 17, 2020 Dark red brown color with a small, light tan head that left light lacing on the glass. Wild cherry, bread, dried fruits, wood, wild finish.
snowcrash000 (2268) - Cologne, GERMANY - AUG 23, 2020UPDATED: AUG 23, 2020 Pours a dark mahogany coloration with a tiny, fizzy head. Smells of bready, caramel malt and strong dark/red fruit notes of raisin, plum and cherry, as well as hints of vanilla and tannic oak. Taste is an excellent balance of rich, sweet, bready, caramel malt and distinct dark and lighter red fruit, with raisin and plum being especially prominent and lighter fig and cherry, as well as some brown sugar and rather pronounced sour, vinous, tannic and woody oak notes, with hints of balsamic vinegar, chocolate, vanilla and clove. Finishes with a medium sourness and some dark fruit and tannic oak lingering in the aftertaste. Full mouthfeel with a rich body and low carbonation.
This one-of-a-kind brew makes for a very unique, drinking experience due to its incredibly rich and complex, yet sublimely balanced flavor profile that combines the sweet, fruity and somewhat spicy notes of a Quadrupel with the sour, vinous and woody notes of an Oud Bruin and while all of these notes stand out luxuriously, they never get into each other's way, really coming into their own without overshadowing one another. A truly superb brew where you can really taste the 7 years of aging in wooden barrels and additional 4 years of secondary fermentation in the bottle, while this never feels overly oxidized, syrupy sweet or too boozy. (Vintage 2009)
