There’s a spicy signature to this incredibly complex cockle-warming winter ale. The nose is reminiscent of raisins, dates and molasses while the palate is vinous with tannin-like notes of leather, vanilla, apricots and a hint of rustic Armagnac on the finish. An awesome after-dinner drop.

Zlotta (5811) - Hagen, GERMANY - FEB 16, 2019
UPDATED: FEB 16, 2019 0.5 l bottle from 'Trinkgut Knödgen', best before January 2020 (import label). Clear, deep reddish amber with a medium large, frothy, slowly diminishing, off-white head. Sweetish-malty, gently fruity and a little herbal-grassy aroma of raisins, caramel, molasses and tea leaves. Gently sweet, malty, slightly bitter, moderately herbal-grassy and a bit fruity taste of caramel, molasses, tea leaves and some raisins, followed by a short, moderately bitter, slightly herbal and a bit grassy finish. Medium to full body, slightly creamy and gently effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Solid Winter Warmer with an industrial feel.

janubio (1247) - SPAIN - JAN 28, 2019
UPDATED: JAN 28, 2019 Tasted at The Situation in a snifter glass. Pours an amber colour, medium head with short retention, tiny crying lace. Aroma of anise, spices, tobacco, caramel. Light body, creamy texture, good carbonation. Sweet finish. Taste of anise, some hops, spices, caramel, tobacco. Good.

matstrange (406) - Kent, ENGLAND - JAN 19, 2019
UPDATED: JAN 19, 2019 Looks nearly as dark as their 1698. Definitely has a festive feel to it, some warming notes but also a molasses type sweetness too. Not a bad drop of Christmas beer!

nocheinbier (109) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - DEC 28, 2018
UPDATED: DEC 28, 2018 Pours beautifully out of a bottle. As someone who has a bit of an issue with Shepherd Naeme I didn't have much expectation. I didn't find much of an aroma to it and for a 7% beer it was not exploding with taste but it still has a bit more character than the usual beers that they do. Quite sweet and grainy, full-bodied and a little bit of the alcohol in the aftertaste. A good beer yo celebrate the greetings season.

jooilakon (701) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - DEC 26, 2018
UPDATED: DEC 26, 2018 Bottle from Systembolaget. Aroma of caramel, dark fruit, spices. Pours clear chestnut body with big white head. Taste is caramel, dark fruit, malts.

hauxe (1666) - Butzbach, Hesse, GERMANY - DEC 26, 2018
UPDATED: DEC 26, 2018 From the bottle. Amber with a frothy to creamy white head. Aroma is malty sweet with caramel. A hint metallic, no real spice. Taste is predominantly sweet with a very mild bitterness that plays out at the finish. A hint of clove lingers on the tongue afterwards. Medium body. Okay.

JoTheO (448) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - DEC 23, 2018
UPDATED: DEC 23, 2018 Bottle 500ml. Amber, clear with a white medium-dense slightly offwhite head. Aroma of vanlla fugde and caramel. Taste is very sweet - a bit too sweet for me actually - reminding of chewy fruit sweets. Finish has some roasted notes and burnt sugar. (A bit like a Spitfire ale with booze in it...)

3.4
ozzatoadisback (298) - ITALY - DEC 23, 2018
UPDATED: DEC 23, 2018 A bit darker than amber, still transparent. A quite dense head, the slightest off-white, shows nice persistence and lots of lacing. Clean but not very intense aroma shows caramel and toffee malts, red fruit notes and a hint of spiciness. Taste follows the aroma closely, with medium to high sweetness and just a hint of bitterness to bring balance. It's slightly warming but very easily drinkable. Medium bodied, with slightly below average carbonation, resulting in a semi-soft, overall quite easy mouthfeel. A relatively simple but nice winter warmer offering.

DerWeg (1876) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 12, 2018
UPDATED: DEC 12, 2018 Bottle from LCBO. Deep amber pour, gentle round aroma. Taste is supremely comforting like nibbling a fresh Lebkuchen wandering around Nurmburg. Rounded spicy flavors like cardamom/ginger, toffee-like malts. Good.
