UPDATED: APR 27, 2021 This is a backlog rating from 2008 from a bottle shared by Matt, from notes. When I had this beer it was average to below average for the style and not something I wanted to have again or I just didn't get back to my notes because of my technology at the time, work and/or family. Words to describe this beer are roasted malts, chocolate, oatmeal sweetness with a hint of tartness, ok.

Rating only on style. This is an amazingly unique beer and I love it, but for style...I just don’t know how to justify it. Hopefully my description gives accurate justice. Golden raisin, dried mango and dried apricot aroma. Color is milky black with reddish tint. No foam or carbonation. Taste is slight tart of white wine, with dark cocoa and malt. Mouth is light and the bitter and grain taste sits for a very long time. If I could rate on personal tastes this would be a 4.2. Tap.

750 mL bottle shared by ebone1988. Apparently I did something awful in a past life if this shit is being "shared" with me. He claims its for the fucking book. The pour is decent. There is a nice darkness to it and a thinner light tan head that looks rather creamy. The aroma is horrific. There is infection radiating out of this that is detectable from 10 feet. It’s tart and sour cherry and apple skin. Nothing resembling chocolate or carob. Oh boy. Here we go. The flavor is bad. The cherry is there, the apple skins are prevalent. There is a heat to it. It’s hot and foul. It burns on the way down in a way that beer should not. The roasted malt tries to make an appearance and then just fades out. The mouth feel is thicker than I had anticipated. It bodied up against the infection. The carbonation is softer and the aftertaste is just bad. There is a lot of sour and dry heat from the spoil. Whoa baby. This one I’d be hard pressed to give another go. Fuckin a.

Oh good. Bottle shared with koleminer20, for the book. Aroma is infection. Green apple, skins, no hint of roasted malt. Appearance is dark dark brown, light brown head, poured thin. Taste is infected. Green apple, chocolate, carob, roasted malt, bad. Mouthfeel is medium body, light crisp carbonation, horrible burned green apple aftertaste. Overall, the book strikes again, although this had potential to be good.

Luvystypotables (2678) - Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA - JUL 16, 2016
A chocolate aroma with lots of vanilla and caramel. Pours a black color with a thick tan well laced head. A taste of caramel, vanilla and chocolate. Slightly watery body, and a slight chocolate finish.

danielemolino (109) - torino, ITALY - MAR 12, 2016
Bevuta alla spina al birrificio gradoplato di Chieri. Nota positiva del birrificio. Imperial stout al cacao e carrube. Leggera rinfrescante per essere una stout. Finale balsamico.
