COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
“the ancients called it ‘food for the gods’“ The Popol Vuh, the sacred book of the Maya, unfolds a complex web of mystery around a beverage known as xocoatl (ch-co-atle). At Southern Tier, we’re not surprised that hieroglyphs of the ancient Maya depict chocolate being poured for rulers and gods. Even through the many voyages of Columbus, the mystical bean remained nothing more than a strange currency of the native peoples. Moving through centuries, the circular journey of cacao has been realized in our brewing house, encompassing the complexity of the darkest, bitter-sweet candy together with the original frothy cold beverage of the ancient Maya to bring to you our Blackwater Series Choklat Stout. We have combined the finest ingredients to tempt your senses & renew the power & interrelation of history in every bottle. 2013 vintage - 10% abv

UPDATED: NOV 17, 2019 Pours dark black, slight cream head. Nose of chocolate, cherries and a bit of prune. Nice robust mouth feel. Loaded with chocolate along with a well integrated sense of light molasses. Finishes slightly bitter, and very long chocolate finish that goes on and on and on. Superb!

UPDATED: MAR 18, 2019 This one lives up to the Choklat hype. Like a Youngs Double Chocolate Stout....but stronger! Flavor of heavy chocolate malt, coffee, etc...the full package. I wanted to drink half of this and save the rest for an ice-cream beer float tomorrow....but just couldn't do it. Got a nice buzz though and ready for bed. An IPS that I would get again....hopefully for sharing next time around.

It pours black with a dark brown head. Head retention is moderate. The initial aroma is a strong deep dark chocolate aroma. It reminds me of a brownie as it warms a bit. This has a rich malt flavor with dark chocolate and cocoa. There is some roast and some slight burnt flavors. There is a bit of cherry in the background as well. Dark fruits are very low. It has a rich, velvet like texture that is smooth and creamy. It has a moderate amount of bitterness to it. Overall, it is a very rich, chocolate beer. The dark chocolate is the dominate flavor of the beer with some supporting elements in the background.

Bottles Dob: 10/9/17 10:23 am. Dark chocolate aroma, with malt and grain. Pitch black pour, mocha head. Thick and chewy palate. Taste of strong sweet and bitter chocolate, oatmeal, malt and very slight heat of alcohol. Would rate higher if more carbonation was left in the bottle to make it more velvettier. Bottles flavors kept up pretty well though. Feel lucky I found a 4 pack of this.

BigBeer45 (1681) - Michigan, USA - MAR 10, 2018
Bottle served in a glass, this beer was a dark brown (almost black) in the glass and the pour gave a tan cover, there was ok lacing, the nose had aromas of milk chocolate, roasted malt, some dark cocoa, a bit of dark bread, malt and chocolate sweetness with some molasses, the flavors were similar to the nose, chocolate, roasted malt, some dark cocoa, molasses, and there was more sweetness than the nose, the finish had a little bitterness with lots of chocolate and sweetness following, this drink had a mouth feel that was more than medium, it was creamy on the lips and there was average carbonation, there was a hint of warmth on the throat, this impy was a sweet chocolate drink, the cocoa was on top of everything else, there was generous sweetness, the flavor had more sweetness than the nose, as the glass warmed, the sweetness expanded, this beer is touted as a dessert beer and it is.

Dark, rich stout with creamy head. Very prominent flavor of bittersweet chocolate. Slightly sweet but very drinkable with a meal as well as for dessert. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. A- Chocolate milk. A- Black color, black liquid, light brown head. T- Chocolate syrup, mild bitterness, slightly sweet. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, balanced finish. O- To say this is like a melted chocolate bar is an understatement. This is pure liquid chocolate. Unbelievable just how much chocolate is in there. A hint of bitterness keeps it from been too sweet. Outstanding stuff and one you have to try to actually appreciate just how chocolate like it is. Had this at almost 2 years old.
