COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Abbaye des Rocs (9% alcohol vol.) is a pure malt beer, with no added sugar. The entire range of tastes is directly linked to the double fermentation, the precise quantities of malts (7 types) as well as the mixtures of three kinds of hops (Belgian, German and Czech). Its colour is a striking deep and majestic red. Its taste is rich and full of subtlety. It is tasted like a red wine with which it shares the ruby colour without having the tannin. It develops a strong sweet smell. It confirms the initial impression in the first mouthful, with a sharp body that is balanced with a certain fruitiness. It frees itself on the palate and develops an impressive depth of taste. Some traces of burnt wood are detectable, but never scorched even if it contains this kind of malt. The foretaste is very prolonged because of its rich and unctuous development throughout the mouth. The bitter and sugar tendencies (even though there is no sugar in its composition) compete and come back together to the taster's great satisfaction. It is a deep, mystic and extremely mature beer to be classed among the great products of our soil.

UPDATED: MAY 17, 2019 Brune was delivered to me by a retail shipper out of Belgium, super pleased to have the chance to try it. 330 ml and best by 9/7/20 on the label. I'm using my Straffe Hendrik glass to sample this one, I lift the lid and pour to see a pecan brown body and an eggshell colored head. The foam rapidly dissipates but there's a steady stream of effervescence. The scent, hey, top level, caramel, wheat bread and dates. A taste, nice indeed, hard candy, grain, bark, malt and yeast and figs. I will linger with this one. A wealth of riches.

Toebel bruine kleur, beige schuim.

UPDATED: JUN 15, 2019 Aroma: dried fruit such as raisin and plum, noticeable chocolate, toffee, alcohol Appearance: hazy brown color with a one-finger beige head. Taste: dried fruit such as raisin and plum, noticeable chocolate, toffee, some burnt malt, some pear medium-high sweetness, medium-high bitterness, some sourness. Palate: medium-full body, medium-high carbonation, mild dryness in the finish, noticeable alcohol sensation. Overall: It is very rounded and showcases very well balance of malty richness and Belgian fruitiness with complementary dark malt rounding up the flavor and imparting some more complexity. Drinkability is slightly higher than other Belgian dark strong I've ever had. One of my favourites of this style.
