Martinsh (1758) - Crewe, Cheshire, ENGLAND - JUL 20, 2022UPDATED: JUL 20, 2022 Bottle from Beer 52 – drank at home. Pours almost black with a small cream head. The nose is understated with just some hints of roasted malts and milky coffee. In the mouth there is a basic bitter-sweet sensation to which other flavours keep coming and going. Humbugs, liquorice, dark chocolate and coffee grounds, plus hints of cola and black wine gums. Finish is a little sweeter than the mouthfeel. Very nice – but one to be sipped slowly.

There is a pleasant, smooth roasty character to this from the off, toasted weetabix type flavour with a charry coffee grounds note. Lasting bitterness throughout and a dark smooth roasted cocoa. A really pleasant beer.

Monty27 (330) - GERMANY - APR 10, 2022UPDATED: APR 10, 2022 The description on the bottle as well as the name make you expect a Baltic style porter. However, the bitterness in reality is mostly absent in smell and in taste and the sweetness dominates.. The dark notes are coffee and some liquorice. This goes more in the direction of German Schwarzbier like Köstritzer. Good beer, though there are better Porters.
