This is Royal Barvarian Hefeweizen. Why are the Bavarian Royal Family and King Ludwig so important to brewing history? The Bavarian Royal Family had sole rights to brewing Hefe-Weizen on Bavaria for over 200 years. No wonder we are the leading experts on wheat beers! 12.5°

Cloudy, yellow to orange body with a huge, creamy, dense, white and very long-lived head that laces the glass excellently. Sweet and strong aroma of hefeweizen yeast with the mandatory banana, and citrus, with sweet caramel and spices in the back. Quite strong flavour of slightly overripe banana from the hefeweizen yeast, citrus, and caramel, with black pepper in the back. Light sweetness with a long-lasting and light bitter finish. Light to medium body, dry texture, moderate carbonation. A crisp and refreshing brew, a very welcome break from the malt driven Christmas beers I've been drinking the last couple of months.
[50 cl bottle as König Ludwig Weissbier Hell, enjoyed 8 months before BB date, from the tax-free at Gardermoen OSL]

500 ml bottle @ Home. Aroma: not very intense aroma of spices (maybe clove), grains, wheat, maybe white grapes, fruits and wine. It can't recognize the banana aromas typical of this style. Appearance: yellow to light golden color with medium hazyness and slightly off-white and creamy head. Very high head thickness with very high retention. Very low Brussels' lacing. Taste: low to medium sweetness, low bitterness, no sourness. Flavors of spices, grains, wheat, with hints of white grapes, wine. Quite well balanced, slightly sweet. Palate: medium body, watery to oily texture, low to medium carbonation, not very long slightly sweet finish of grains, spices, wheat, some fruits. Alcohol is not noticeable. Overall: aromas and flavors are not very intense and not very similar to other Hefeweizens. Some spiced aromas and flavors but not like clove and no banana at all. Despite of this it's quite drinkable and enjoyable. Not bad but not one Hefeweizen to remember.

Una weisse dall'aroma praticamente inesistente. Consistenza acquosa e gusto molto povero. Si riesce a bere a malapena, sconsigliata.

Where Purchased: 500ml bottle from the LCBO Consumed: from a wheat glass Aroma: Smells slightly fruity and sweet with a hint of sourness. Appearance : unfiltered light gold with thick sticky head that lasts to the end. Very sticky lacing. Taste: very well balanced. not too sweet and no sign of hops. Palate : medium body. Bittersweet aftertaste. Great carbonation. Overall: Such a well balanced and easy drinking beer. Not as good as Erdinger, but still very good. Missing the yeast that is lefty at the bottom during bottle fermentation. This was about perfect. I was glad to try and will definatley buy again. MB. The Beer "Bear"on.

Is there anything better than a great German Helles? This one comes with a touch of wheat, but it's still clean, well made, instantly refreshing and just plain awesome.
