COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Oude Gueuze is an appellation controlee : its label is protected. It is also known as the champagne of beers, especially as it is only available as a limited edition. Timmermans Oude Gueuze’s special flavour derives from its time-honoured method of preparation. It is a blend of old lambic, which has been aged for three years in wooden barrels, and young lambic which ensures spontaneous fermentation in the bottle. The different lambics are carefully selected by the brewer to obtain a perfect flavour. After it has been produced, Timmermans Oude Gueuze, which is refermented for four months in the bottle, continues to improve for 20 years.

Foffern (2145) - Bodø, NORWAY - APR 8, 2018
Bottle at Hundholmen, Bodø. Pours a slightly hazy dark bronze colour with a very little head. Aroma of apricots, barn yard, apple cider vinegar, oak, rowanberries and wet basement. Sour flavour of more citric acid, vinegar, heather, oak, horse and apricots. Has a silky mouth feel, medium body and a light bitterness. The aroma is relatively sweet and fruity. The flavour is well soured though, fresh but a little less complex than average gueuze.

Złocisto - pomarańczowej barwy, zamglone. Piana ładna po nalaniu, średnio trwała. Aromat intensywny, wyraźne dzikie nuty. Na pierwszym planie stajnia, później dużo akcentów owocowych. W smaku kwaśne, owocowe, cytrusowe, goryczka agrestowa.

Restrained funky aroma in a golden pour. Similarly laid back tart taste with all the subtlety and complexity one expects from a Belgian master.

At 't Lusthof, Denderwindeke. Labeled: 2013-2016. Pours clear golden/orange with a lasting, foamy, white head. The aroma contains barnyard, leather, yeast, green apple, vinegar, wood and dough. It tastes medium to heavy funky sour and light hoppy bitter with some wood touches; long, drying, tart finish. Medium body, slick texture, soft carbonation. I had my reservations before tasting it (with Timmermans being in John Martin's hands) but they did a good job here.

375ml green bottle with cork and cage. Brewed in 2013, bottled in 2016. Very sloppy pour resulted in a dark golden beer with haze and dark little floaty specks. White head fades to a ring. Nose - lemon, vinegar, sour. Taste - lemon, vinegar, sour apple, sour peach, wood. Not very funky, but very nicely soured and sharp and dry. Not sure why I took so long to try this, it's a solid gueuze.
