UPDATED: MAY 11, 2020 March 24th, 2016 - Bursting with lava on the label, this beer bursts with smoke in the flavor. It's a little bit like Iceland's rauchbier, with a huge puff of smoke in the aroma, and ham, though not as deep as the style it might be imitating. The flavor is a tad sweeter than the aroma, with plenty of smoke and ham here too, but pared back compared to the aroma. The long aftertaste echoes these flavors, but with some mashed pea taste and body, and just a slight flavor of toasted coconut. The flavor is much better than the aroma, though still appreciably smoke riddled. jinroh (4531) - ESTONIA - APR 7, 2020
UPDATED: APR 7, 2020 Icelandic staple, from Reykjavik Airport. Dark black pour, some foam but not that much. Nose is thick, light asphalt, black leather and a bit of smoke there. Medium bodied, not too sweet and not too dry. Taste has more of that light bitter smoke character, medium sweetness, bitter linger n the finish. Tasty and solid beer but not something that would really knock you out of your socks.

UPDATED: JAN 4, 2020 I've had this 330 ml bottle of Lava put away since our summer visit to Reykjavik. Pulled it out of the stash and am ready to sample now. I've got a Teku glass ready to go, You cannot get much blacker than this one, a smallish circle of medium tan foam surrounds the glass. It has a promising scent, chocolate, red fruit and some of the smoke coming through. And speaking of smoke, I usually find it distracting to an imperial stout. In this case, not as much. Baking chocolate, wheat bread, tobacco, a fruit sweetness and a small but obvious smoke presence. Very drinkable. ricardostercios (1231) - Castelló de la Plana, SPAIN - DEC 16, 2019
UPDATED: DEC 16, 2019 Color negro, opaca. Textura oleosa. Carbonatación baja.
Un muy buen ejemplo de cerveza ahumada. Intensa, de cuerpo denso y no cansa en absoluto. Suco (1142) - Castellon, SPAIN - NOV 12, 2019
UPDATED: NOV 12, 2019 Color negro, opaca. Un dedo de espuma marrón con retención media. Aroma a malta tostada, humo, café y chocolate negro. Gusto a malta tostada, chocolate negro, café, humo, ceniza, ascuas, inicio de trago dulce y final amargo, gusto intenso y duradero, alcohol totalmente integrado. Cuerpo oleoso. Que bien jugada está esta birra, un poco de todo y en su justa medida, excelente. OminouSC2 (2602) - Mora, SWEDEN - OCT 26, 2019
