Aroma of malt and bit of caramel. taste of roasted malt, light caramel sweetness and dash of coffee. slight bitterness and fairly clen finish. Moderate body with a nice malt feel to it. Interesting. thegreenrooster	3.6 Griesedieck Brothers Double Mellow 1880 Session Porter Pour is a near black with a small fizzy white head. Aroma is a nice almost chicory like char with some coffee. Flavor is pretty much the same nice roasty char with a minor coffee left on the tongue. This was pretty good. For such a low abv beer this had a nice thick body with pleanty of roasted malt. Flavor is more of the same bready malt a little caramel but is more dry than sweet. Decent, a little more malt flavor then the usual lager but not a lot of flavor to begin with. Appearance is lightly hazy yellow-light brown with nice sparkle, thin cap of off-white head quickly fading to a ring with no lacing. Aroma is wheat cracker, mild tart fruit(?). Taste is rich wheat, mild clove, hint of banana. Mouthfeel is light-to-medium bodied with smooth texture, average carbonation and finish as taste. CanIHave4Beers	2.8 Griesedieck Brothers Golden Pilsener Bottle, shared by me... in my dining room... just now. Pours a very nice looking glass of beer. Pale golden with a nice fluffy white head, not much lace to speak of, but that’s just fine. The aroma is metallic & has some corn flake notes to it... It has some doughiness and a light malt character but gracious it reminds me a lot of the pilsners I pick up at random from eastern European groceries.... uh oh. The flavor is much better than the aroma, it’s not dry but it’s not overly sweet, thankfully the breakfast cereal sweetness is pretty faint in the flavor. It’s a little bit hoppy with a light herbal bite. The corniness is pretty low, but noticeable. I’d drink it again. Thursday, June 26, 2014
seymour	4 Griesedieck Brothers Bavarian-Style Wheat Tasted at St. Louis Brewer’s Guild Heritage Fest 2014 in a cool nonic sampler glass. This was the biggest surprise of the night for me, coming from a brewery I had always overlooked but was one of the most delicious beers of all. It poured a cloudy yellow colour with sudsy white foam and lace. Grainy, grassy, faint black pepper and clove, STRONG banana esters the way I love Weizenbier. Flavor is "off" with a weird sourness that overwhelms everything else. Banana finally shows in finish. Strykzone	2.1 Griesedieck Brothers Bavarian-Style Wheat 12 oz. bottle. This pours an orange brown with no head in the tulip glass. The nose is yeast, cloves, and cloves and could be more genuine. The flavor could use some work, too. Powdery dried figs, bananas, and tangerines. Spices that are almost Fall but don’t get there.A sourness permeates that puckers and clashes with the sweetness. Medium body that’s a bit slick and it has frothy carbonation. The flavor starts with a fake-ish banana flavor, brown sugar, cloves and a fully wheatiness. The finish is sweet and plasticy. Looks unfiltered to me. Aroma of banana, bubblegum, sweet malts, honey, wheat, clove, and a grassy, earthy note that overwhelms the other hefeweizen notes just a bit. This smooths out in the flavor, which brings banana, sweet malts, honey, clove, dough, wheat, and cereal. Medium-bodied, with a chewy mouthfeel and low carbonation. wxman	3.1 Griesedieck Brothers Bavarian-Style Wheat Pours a semi-cloudy deep golden with a substantial fluffy white head that diminishes somewhat, but sticks around. Not really cloudy enough to carry the "unfiltered" description, at least compared to a Bavarian hefe-weizen. Aroma is sweet malt and clove. Taste primarily clove and banana along with the sweet liquor of the malts. Not much hoppiness at all. The beer is a clear golden color with a thin white head that burns away to a film eventually. Thin strings of lacing. Mildly spiced hops aroma that has some grainy malt notes. Pours a clear yellow-gold, a sharp color, with a solid, two-finger thick white head that dissipates into a small, lasting cap. Aroma of grassy hops, corn, sweet pale malts, honey, and straw. Flavor follows suit pretty well, grassy and grainy, with honey sweetness. Light-bodied, with active but soft carbonation and a grassy mouthfeel. They did a nice job on this style overall. Pours a clear golden pale yellow brew with a thin white head that quickly dissipates to a thin film. Aroma of golden grain malt, a hint of grassy hops and some honey. wxman	3.3 Griesedieck Brothers Golden Pilsener I have to agree with a previous rater. This brew is under-rated. We need to remember to rate against others of the same style and not prejudice against styles that are not our favorites. Sampled 2 years ago at a small pub in St. Louis, I found this to be a noteworthy domestic pils in the company of Victory and Stoudt. On draft, it pours a pale bright golden with a robust white head that diminishes some but continues to ring the glass as you consume. Crisp, clean taste of pale malt sweetness, fresh bread and a light hop bitterness. Some grassiness as well. This is a delicious summer thirstquencher true to the style as originally intended in the 19th Century. Friday, May 29, 2009
