16oz can: This one pours a hazy, orange tinged golden color. Just a bit of a white head and almost no lacing. Nice nose. Orange, some earthiness. Lighter notes of some breadiness and a faint spice. The taste is good. Unlike what the name implies, this is not a juice bomb. Orange, some spices, earthiness, some breadiness, faint pine and a bit of a dry finish. Very good!

Madison Battlefield Stout
Reviewed from notes. The appearance was a rich brown color with a finger’s worth of light tan foamy head that glistened and fell off at a moderate pace. Light stringy lace. The aroma had a nice big roastiness to it up front. Milk chocolate and some light coffee grounds play the second part in this section. Some dark chocolate and a little bit of cream slide in underneath. The flavor leaned in on the sweetness at first and then allowed a nice roastiness come in with a little bit of toast, and slight earthy components. Not much of an aftertaste but has a nice low key semi-sweet finish. The feel was about medium bodied with a nice relaxed smooth feature flowing over the roast, nice and controlled. ABV felt good and so was the carbonation. Overall, nice sweet stout well worthy of having again.

Madison Honey Brown
Reviewed from notes. The appearance was a dark amber close to brown color with a cap of a little white foamy head that dissipated at a moderate pace. Light stringy lace. The aroma had a good dose of caramel/toffee malts covering some nuts, semi-roasty with some bitterness from some earthy/grassy hops. Light spice. The flavor leaned into the sweetness and then a gentle roast came in for a good balance. Nice lingering roasty to malty smooth aftertaste rolling into the finish in the same way. The feel leads with a medium body and had a soft carbonation. Malts smooth things out nicely without any cloying effects. Overall, nicely done brown ale well worthy of having again.

Madison Irish Stout
Poured into a nonic pint glass, the appearance had a slight dark brown color almost close to black in color with a finger’s worth of a tan head. Slowly dissipates to leave some sly lace. The aroma takes on some roasty coffee beans, good layer of milk chocolate, slight cream and some earthy dry nuttiness. The flavor opens up with the blend between the previously mentioned aromas to gently glide on into the aftertaste and finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sessionability about it. Moderate carbonation felt fine against the ABV. All seemed well. Overall, good Irish dry stout that I could have again.

Madison Old 76 Strong Ale
On draft at the taproom. APPEARANCE- medium brown color, great head. NOSE- smells much like a brown ale. FLAVOR- extremely smooth drinking beer. Malty flavor with perhaps a hint of hop bitterness, but only enough to balance out the rest of the beer. NOTES- touted by the barman at the taproom as a flagship beer. I can see why. Very enjoyable and even more quaffable!! I think this is much better than the current rating of 39. Hopefully my review will bump that up a bit.

Madison Belgian Ale
This was poured into a nonic pint glass. The appearance was a burnt orange color with little to no head. Basically, just a cap that immediately just slides away. No lace. The aroma has some tart to sour dried fruitiness (somewhat like peach and cherry). The flavor tries to come together. But a somewhat tangy to sour aftertaste and finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body. Sessionable, hmmmm...somewhat but that strong tangy to tart and sourness punches my tongue pretty harshly. Somewhat hard to get all of the way down my throat. Overall, Belgian ale? Somewhat, but that sourness seems a bit uncontrolled and doesn’t seem to want to stay together.

Madison Catamount Blonde
Reviewed from notes. This was poured into a pint glass. The appearance was a ruddy burnt yellow color with a bar pour’s kind of slim white head. No lace. The aroma had some citrus and piney notes over a sly malt. The flavor somewhat wraps it together. Barely any aftertaste, but somewhat citrusy. Quick finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light on the body with a nice sessionability about it. Low carbonation. Citrus hop bitterness is the harshness on my tongue. Overall, this one was a decent blonde ale that I could have again.

Madison Brown Ale
Reviewed from notes. This was poured into a nonic pint glass. The appearance was a dark brown color with a finger worth of foamy white head that dissipates at a nice low pace and leaves some light lingering lace. The aroma takes some earthy notes over some nutty crisp malts. Low amount of caramel and toffee. The flavor is malty sweet and balances with the earthiness. Light malty to earthy aftertaste. Sly finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a nice sessionability about it. Low to medium carbonation. Earthiness comes back to give a push in the harshness department on my tongue but doesn’t distract from the flavor. Overall, mostly good brown ale with an added acceptable earthiness to it.

Madison Hawley's Maple Sap Red
Reviewed from notes. On tap at the brewpub. This was poured into a pint glass. The appearance was a ruddy malty dark amber/red color. Bar pour’s kind of slim white foamy head quickly dissipates. Lingering white rimmed messy lacing sticks to the sides of the glass. The aroma takes on some of the sweet contours of the maple syrup but then some of the normal qualities of an amber ale = malty rich nutty to caramel/toffee notes. The flavor brings it all together decently. Big malty tones weave through the sweet maple portion. Lingering malty rich sweet aftertaste. Slick caramel sweet finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a nice sessionability about it. Carbonation feels good. Maple syrup even feels good, nothing cloying, just feels all around good. Overall, really nice amber ale, maple syrup is there, but not overly done, as sometimes in these "maple syrup" flavored ales, most of the time, they get cloying, but this one is well balanced and worthy of more pours.

Madison Black Lager
Didn’t really think this was a Schwarzbier but figured it was the closest probable style fitting for this beer according to ratebeer suggested styles. On tap at the brewpub, this was poured into a pint glass. The appearance was a nice looking hazy dark brown close to black color with a thin wisp of white head quickly dissipating. No lacing. The smell had some burnt coffee grinds, light cocoa bean and sweet bready lager malts, more American than German (why I don’t think this is a Schwarzbier). The taste had some great roasty to sweet bready to coffee grinds effect all around. Quick semi-bready aftertaste. Light smooth dry finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. Carbonation runs smooth. Overall, though not really a Schwarzbier, still good for the most part. I could come back to this.

Madison Downtown IPA
On tap at Madison Brewpub. This was poured into a pint glass. The appearance was a glossy/hazy burnt orange color. Light lacing after a quickly dissipating little head. The smell took on a light sweet to bitter orange to lemon bitter rind. Light emblazoned sweet citrus runs in underneath. The taste was semi-sweet with a light sweet malty flavor riding in on the aftertaste and finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light on the body. Great sesionability. Overall,I’d say this was great, I’d have again.
