3 Castelões Chopp Escuro Sampled draught at the brewpub. Dark nut brown with rich, creamy, beige head. Very lightly roasty. Dry and really creamy with velvetty soft mouthfeel. Some pleasant, but very discrete, malt flavours are present if you concentrate hard enough. Slight salty finish. Different from other dark Brazilian beers I've tried, in that it is dry. Could certainly be more flavourful, but serves the purpose of washing down a pizza in the steaming city of São Paulo well. Wednesday, March 17, 2004 | |

2.6 Castelões Chopp Claro Sampled draught at the brewpub. After spending many hours circling the gigantic city of São Paulo for a brewpub that was not closed for good I found this pizzeria, in the place where Cervejaria Continental used to be. Despite their conversion to a restaurant they had continued brewing. This beer was pale yellow with creamy head. The aroma awas lightly grassy. It was medium bodied, but firm and clean, unlike most Brazilian macrobrews, and it also had some light, soapy bitterness. Not a masterpiece, but a decent thirst quencher.
