1.9 Bragdy Teifi Dai Cockles Bottled, 500ml Christmas Beer from Derek & Kelsey. Murky brown with no head, very flat. The bottling from this brewery has been terrible, tried an aggressive pour to no effect. Flat, muddy, earthy flavours, not quite a drain-pour as with the Stormy Dai but on its way. 0.9 Bragdy Teifi Stormy Dai Bottled, 500ml Christmas Beer from Derek & Kelsey. Clouded brown with no head. This was as flat as any beer I have ever poured before, no pop on opening the cap, no playful bubbles. It had gone, there must be something very wrong with the bottling process here, BBE is Sep 2022, so plenty on that. Managed a couple of swigs, but it was awful and a drain pour. Terrible. 3.4 Bragdy Teifi Dirty Dai (prev Penlon Cottage Dirty Dai) Bottled, 500ml from Derek & Kelsey at Christmas. Very dark brown with beige head. There are darkly roasted malts to the fore with this, coffee and cigarette ash notes, reasonable bitterness, quite drying in character. There is a plummy fruitiness but it is mostly charcoaled malt notes, with some dry caramel. Pretty reasonable. Tuesday, January 18, 2022

2.5 Bragdy Teifi Crafty Dai (prev Pen-lon Cottage Crafty Dai) 500ml bottle from Stori, Bala. Pours clear amber, small off-white head. Aroma is lightly smoky, biscuity. Taste sees the smokiness come to the fore, some plastic phenol notes, herbal.. clearly not intentional. Biscuity malt flavours start to emerge, but the smokiness is off-putting with some old leather wallet / leather pub seat / ashtray notes on the finish. Needs a little work. 2.9 Pen-lon Cottage Gimmers Mischief (Export edt.) 500ml bottle from somewhere in Wales. Lightly hazy mid golden. Aroma of straw, caramel and grassy hops. There’s a bit of bitterness in the flavour and then malty sweetness reigns, before a return to grassy bitterness at the end. Friday, July 10, 2020

2.8 Pen-lon Cottage Chocolate Stout Bottle from Gwin Llyn Wines, Pwllheli. Dark brown with a thick frothy head. Dark beer with a heavy floralness, with some roasted malt including chocolate notes behind the aforementioned. (The bottle was 10 months out of date - perhaps this wasn't quite in tip-top condition when drank). Tuesday, April 23, 2019

3 Pen-lon Cottage Tipsy Tup Pale Ale Bottle from Gwin Llyn Wines, Pwllheli. Hazy amber with an extremely thin head. For a bitter, this has a decent blast of citrus to give it enough flavour to enjoy, at a very drinkable strength. Mildly hoppy, it has a low bitterness factor. Tuesday, March 27, 2018

2.7 Pen-lon Cottage Ramnesia Yeasty, wild-tasting (not in the funky sense, but in the brewed-at-home sense (not at home sense the store… yeah I’m going waaaay off point here)). However there is a strong malt profile with a dark fruit feel too. That being said, a lot of the taste gets lost in the “muck” of being that inescapable yeasty home brew taste / smell. 500ml bottle from Treehouse, Aberystwyth. Wednesday, February 21, 2018

2.5 Pen-lon Cottage Twin Ram India Pale Ale Blimey, you can tell this is small batch stuff, with that pungent yeast aroma. Strong fruity flavours battle out through all of that yeast tangyness, but the malts are kept at bay. Still rather “chewy” despite its thinness. Would like to try it from a cask. 500ml bottle from Treehouse, Aberystwyth. Wednesday, February 21, 2018

3.2 Pen-lon Cottage Chocolate Stout August 2017 - Tasting at Leighton's. Huge thanks! Bottle, as 'Penlon Cottage Chocolate Stout', 4.5%. Dark brown, opaque, foamy light brown head. Aroma is chocolate, as expected, bourbon biscuit and ash. Body is smooth with soft carbonation Taste is a little thin, slightly tangy, demerara with ash and some dark chocolate. Main problem for me is that it's lacking bitterness, which makes it seem a bit thin and sweet. OK I suppose. (6-4-5-4-13=3.2) Sunday, October 29, 2017

2.7 Pen-lon Cottage Chocolate Stout Intense dark roast filter coffee, burnt cacao, dark chocolate. Hazy, dark brown, tiny, creamy, beige head. Light bitter. More burnt, dark malts, watery texture, dark roast coffee, strong filter, soft carbonation, medium bodied. Not a great Stout, malts are too burnt, watery palate. Bottle shared at Leighton’s - thanks to The_Osprey! Tuesday, October 3, 2017

2.2 Pen-lon Cottage Chocolate Stout 500ml bottle from a shop in Pembrokeshire, shared with Mike. Pours deep dark brown with beige head. Mirage-like caramel choc aroma. Rather fizzy mouthfeel with little chocolate coming through. Mild grains but a bit thin and watery. Not the best I’ve had from this brewery. Thursday, October 8, 2015

2.9 Pen-lon Cottage Gimmers Mischief Bottle courtesy of Geraint and Helen, consumed at home 17th September 2015. Thanks you two! Dark gold bit cloudy with a white head, bitterness builds and it’s a tangy fruity effort, busy carbonation, slow steady continual eruption out of the bottle on the pour. Yeasty sediment in mouth. It’s ok, but benefited from me pouring a little Brewdog DPC in to the last 1/4 to hop it up a little. A6 A3 T6 P3 Ov11 2.9 Thursday, September 17, 2015

3.1 Pen-lon Cottage Tipsy Tup Pale Ale 500ml bottle conditioned: BBE Jan 16. Poured at home into an Abbot Ale glass tankard on 12th Aug 15. Could only get half the beer out of the bottle, so big was the head and the beer so lively. Hazy dull amber/orange body, the huge head off-white and alive! Yeasty, almost home brew in aroma with malts pushing the hops into a distant second place scent wise. The taste more an equal blend, Pale malts and semi-bittering hops marry together quite well and give a good overall feel to the flavouring. Another Welsh beer and brewery to my collection, this offering was more OK than live changing or interesting. Wednesday, August 12, 2015

2.7 Pen-lon Cottage Lambs Gold Light Ale 500ml bottle from Fire & Ice, Narberth. Pours cloudy orange / copper with a proud white head. Vague malt aroma.
