3 Pagosa Four Roses Bourbon Barrel Stout On tap at the brewpub. Opaque, brown-black with a khaki head and very good lacing. Aroma of chocolate, berries, oatmeal and very mild roasted malt. Taste of raspberries, oatmeal, chocolate and roasted malt. Light/medium body and medium/high carbonization. Other than perhaps the berries, I'm finding no hint of barrel aging. Nor, is there anything to make me think this is an 8.7% brew. Both the waiter and the barkeep insist that it is their Bourbon Barrel Stout, but it seems more like an oatmeal stout to me and closely resembles another patron's Soaker's Stout. Maybe they tossed in a few charred wood chips, but this beer certainly did not spend much, if any time, in a barrel. (I also tried Rockyard Bourbon Barrel Stout. That was a proper bourbon barrel stout.) ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone Wednesday, March 2, 2016

3.1 Pagosa Honeymoon Lager GABF 2015. Described as a honey maibock. Copper color. Aroma has a mineral quality, and there is more of this in the flavor, some honey. Lightly sweet but not as sweet as I would expect a maibock to me, and the alcohol is hidden too, in a style where I usually pick it up. Sunday, November 1, 2015

3.1 Pagosa Alpine Abbey Lambic GABF 2015. Copper color. Light aroma, yeast, a lot more yeast in the aroma. it is sour, but not like a lambic and more like a Flanders brown sour, not really a lambic in character at all. Decent beer anyway. Sunday, November 1, 2015

2.7 Pagosa Dispensary Ale FIRST rating of this, the first cannabis beer I have seen on sale legally. On tap at the brewpub. Stopped in for a quick beer, and couldn’t resist trying this. It is fairly light and mellow, and the seeds add a dash of nutty taste. It didn’t appear to have any marijuana-type kick to it, so don’t get too excited. Sunday, May 31, 2015

4.4 Pagosa Powder Day IPA What a surprise. I was skiing Wolf Creek the next day and awaiting the 37 inch dumper we were getting so I said to myself, "well I have to get the Powder Day." Great decision. This is one of the best IPAs I have ever had. It is rich with hoppy flavor and what sets it apart from every other IPA I have ever had is that it is fruity, in the best way possible, and it balances with the hops perfectly. Now the fruitiness wasn’t as if they mixed actual fruit into the beer, other than some citrus peel I don’t think there is any fruit in it. I think this tastes comes from the combination of the American hops they used and it just made it taste really fresh. Like it was just picked off the vine. Other than the taste, it was a little heady, produced a decent lace, and had a delicious aroma. The only real downside of this beer is that it made me sad when my glass was empty. Highly recommend visiting this little brewery and giving it a try. Wednesday, March 26, 2014
