Santa Rosa, CALIFORNIA -

Heineken announced that they will buy Russia’s Patra brewery soon. The whole point of this is to raise Heineken’s share of the Russian market from 7.5 % to 8.3 %.

The Mondial de la bière in Montreal is coming soon ! The 12th edition of the Mondial will be held from June 1 to 5 and will showcase more than 340 beers from Europe, United States and Canada. As usual the access is free and the tasting coupons will be sold for $1 a piece.

Smuttynose Brewery has seen a dramatic increase of sales in it’s 11th year of operation. According to Smuttynose’s president, Peter Egelston the sales rose 26% and so far this year they are up 50%.

Montreal’s Molson brewery will produce Coors Blue Moon for the U.S. market. To do so they will have to invest 2 million $ to upgrade their brewing facilities.

May 5th was Vertical Epic day ! Stone Brewing Co. released the fourth installment of their Belgian Strong Ale brand, Vertical Epic, with the 05.05.05. Stone Brewing’s CEO, Greg Koch stated about this tradition that began on February 2nd, 2002 that what started as a unique concept turned into a beer enthusiast’s own holiday.

Oregon’s The Pelican Pub & Brewery won the Grand Champion Beer at the Australian International Beer Awards. As if it wasn’t enough the brewery also won the Champion International Brewery and the Champion Ale prizes. The Champion Ale and Grand Champion Beer prizes were given to their Doryman’s Dark Ale.

Uinta Brewing in Salt Lake City announced the creation of a new developmental division. Called Four + Brewing, the division will focus on resurrecting “old world styles” of classic beer and give them a modern touch by adding an American twist. The first product from this division is called Monkshine Belgian Pale Ale.
