Our new bitter brown ale, Corporal Punishment, is our most complex beer to date. This ale is a wonderfully bitter, incredibly malty and nicely hoppy brew. Amber and Dark Crystal malts, and Willamette and Challenger hops are used in this 5.3 percent alcohol, 84 International Bittering Units (that’s right, 84 IBU) ale. A rich mahogany in colour, this ale blends flavours of fresh bitter coffee, dry caramel and nuttiness with light dry chocolate, woody hop and citric notes.

This beer is obviously a little past its prime, and possibly its rating may reflect a more innocent era in Ontario brewing, but its still a pretty good beer. Pours cloudy brown. Good aroma of hops and some roast malt. Bottle possibly at the last place you can still find this - The Rhino.

if i say this is a foamy brew that is an understatement. is red/brown in colour.aromas are malted, caramel, nutty, and there is some vegetable note in there as well. palate is malted, caramel and some leafy finish. it is a bit thin and lack balance.

Cheers JoeMcPhee. Mahogany colour with a huge frothy white head and lace. Lively carbonation with a malt aroma. Strong malt flavour. Rich beer of caramel, earth, nuts. Surprising fruity, scented finish.

Bouteille 341ml.

UPDATED: DEC 12, 2011 Pours a lovely amber to hazelnut brown translucent colour, with an off cream colour head that dissipates moderately quick. The aroma was impressively potent, when I popped the little stubby 341ml - I was instantly hit by a wave of nutty citrus. As for the mouth feel, it is pleasantly dry, with a very accute body. For taste, it carries notes of a crisp citrus, walnuts, and bitter perfumed hops. Hardly punishment at all.

Bottle: From a trade with Sammy; THANKS SAMMY! Aroma of malt, toffee, caramel, light chocolate, light butterscotch, light nuts, slight amaretto, and a hint of butter. Poured copper/orange in color with a small to medium-sized, creamy, dense, rocky, beige head that greatly diminished but lasted throughout as a film on top of the beer, as well as around the edges. Cloudy. Lightly sparkling. Full of tiny and small particles throughout. Excellent lacing. Flavor is light to medium sweet. Tastes of malt, slight tea, light cocoa, light coffee, nuts, light hops, slight caramel, and some water. Light to medium body. Slick, creamy, then dry texture. Soft to average carbonation. Malt, light coffee, light cocoa, slight tea, nuts, and light hop finish is dry.

Labelled as ’Corporal’s Bitter Brown Ale’
I tried this beer on November 9, 2010 after purchasing from the Queen’s Quay LCBO in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The beer poured a hazy brownish gold with a thin white head (certainly not the rich mahogany colour described on the bottle). The aroma was grainy malt, ginger, and some floral hops. The mouthfeel was medium bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour was grainy malt, with citrusy hops, yeast, and spices...and I still have a ginger taste. I really enjoyed this beer. Appearance is marked down because brownish gold comes nowhere near mahogany! Had the side of the bottle not said ’ would have received a higher score!

341 ml bottle from LCBO. Pours a pale orange brown with large white head and good lacing. Aroma is sweet, but not sickly so, with lots of caramel and milk chocolate and some light grains . Taste starts big and malty with a lingering chocolate finish on top of a nice lasting bitterness. A very nice brown ale.

bottle thanks to bu11zeye. poured clear gold with a white head. aroma was grain, caramel, and grass. flavor was much the same plus some chocolate. body was light with medium carbonation.
