Bottle. Pours a dark brown with medium off white head leaving spotty lacing. The aroma is floral hop and pine. Medium mouthfeel, roasted malt, pine, lingering bitter finish, very good. oregontarheel (45) - - NOV 9, 2013
I love, I mean love, most everything 10 barrel puts out. But I have to make an exception here. This place pale ale has, well, an awful aftertaste. Plain and simple. Almost biting and overly, I dunno, oaky? Not a fan.

Bottle:   Fairly black, moderate light beige head, spotty lacing.   Soft
roasted nose, slight campfire and cow pasture.   Citrusy tea leaves up front, the
roasted malts aren’t as strong as I thought they would be.   Decent balance.
Does have a minor cow pasture like flavor profile, but its minor and less than a lot of
others.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   I wouldn’t guess this to be a
Black IPA based on a blind test.   Its not terribly roasty.   Seems to be a
theme with these Hop Project beers, not terribly bitter, with some pale citrus like tea
leaves on the finish.   A lighter Black IPA. bb (9241) - Alamo, California, USA - SEP 11, 2013
Bottle. Black beer with a light brown head. Grapefruit and light darker malt aroma. Grapefruit and pine flavor with light backing cocoa. Medium bodied. Good bitterness. Grapefruit and pine linger with light dark malts. jgb9348 (6199) - Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA - JUL 1, 2013
Nice very dark brown coloured body with a rich, three centimetre tall tan head - very opaque for the style, even when held to a light. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malt and huge helpings of passionfruit and pineapple - very nice and complex with some dark caramels and light tropical notes! Medium-bodied; Rich roasty malt flavours with a lot of caramel and toffee and a super pungent pineapple and resinous hop note right afterward. Aftertaste shows a great balance of roasted malt and very pungent tropical and resinous hop flavours and a smooth sweet finish with hints of bitterness from the hops and mainly from the roasted malt. Overall, one of the better Black IPAs i’ve ever had - a great blend of roasted malt and deep characteristics with fruity and tropical hop flavours - worked very well and I wish I could get more of this...i’m not sure why this has such a low rating! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Pearl Specialty Market in Portland, Oregon on 26-April-2013 for US$1.99 sampled at home in Washington on 01-July-2013.

Deep black pour. Tall brown head. Moderate bodied drink that is constructed out of great roasted malts. The light chocolate malt character compliments the overall roasted body with light coffee notes throughout. Pervasive hop presence of sharp pine and grapefruit with maybe a touch of tangerine. Really well done example of this style. BK7 (773) - Turner, Oregon, USA - MAY 25, 2013
Bottle. Roasted malts, mild chocolate and something sweet in the background. Over carbonated. Bitter finish. Overall a solid India Dark Ale. douglas88 (9064) - Portland, Oregon, USA - MAY 20, 2013
