3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle 1897/2000. smell of bourbon and sweet malts. pours a reddish brown with a light head. nice bourbon finish on the back mixed with nice balance of malts. at 10% the alcohol doesn’t overpower your tasted buds but you definitely taste the bourbon. Nice find on our trip to portland.
From the 750 bottle. Big malty red ale taste with a nice caramel finish. Slightly sticky and hoppy. brokensail (16599) - Dublin, California, USA - NOV 24, 2012
Slightly hazed amber pour with an off-white head. Nice sweet malt aroma of toffee, brown sugar, and caramel. Some toasted bread, floral hops, and a bit of citrus peel. A fair amount of pine, too. The flavor is lightly bitter from the pine. A bit of floral hop character, some citrus peel, and plenty of malt sweetness. Lots of caramel, toffee, and toasted bread. A hint of alcohol as it warms. Bottle 1729. Pours a solid red. The aroma is very nice. Get some subtle bourbon flavor in it. The taste is very smooth for a red. They did an awesome job on this.

Bottle... Pours hazy and dark with longhorn-orange highlights and a large, fluffy, off-white head. The aroma furnishes gobs of caramel, loads of bourbon and a nice oaken component. Medium-bodied with lively carbonation. The flavor provides a ton of boozy bourbon, sweet caramel and bitter hops. Finishes boozy and bitter. The three main aspects of this beer don’t really meld all that well. Another year or so in the bottle may solve this problem. Good overall. Barrel. Thanks for sharing Tony. Cloudy brown pour with an off white head. Big boozy nose. The body is thin with all kinds of booze. Some undercurrents of sweet caramel malts and bitterness from the hops.

Bottle: #1586 of 2600 Deep dark caramel, strong reddish hue, moderate to large frothy sandy head, fairly nice lacing. Nose of caramel, candied citrus peel, oak, and bourbon aged in red wine barrels. Very interesting nose. Nothing stands out, everything is very subtle or melded together. Smooth, rich, and malty on the tongue. This is where the Imperial Red rings true. Hoppy, yet not biting. Malty, yet not heavy. Definite barrel aging that leans towards Bourbon and even a some Red wine like aspects. This is an interesting beer in that nothing is dominant. Each aspect plays a small part in the overall culmination of this beer. Backside is even a little fruity, with a stronger vinous aspect, slight oak and bourbon notes. I would only say I wished it was a bit more vanilla and toasted marshmallow like. That would have secured the Bourbon aspect. Body and mouthfeel are decent, yet not quite velvety or viscous. Finishes with a little bit of an acidic oak and Bourbon character. Make this one a bit more chewy, pump up the body, a touch more Bourbon aspect with its toasted marshmallow, and then it would be a real showstopper. As is, very good, but needs more depth to it. Hides its 10% ABV well at least. radagast83 (8191) - Arlington, Virginia, USA - MAY 5, 2012
Shared a bottle #1612 out of #2600 bottles. Poured a reddish color with a off-white head. Aroma was sweet fruit notes. Flavor was interesting, fruit notes, with a touch of bourbon. BK7 (773) - Turner, Oregon, USA - APR 9, 2012
If you are going to cork a beer use a good cork. Nothing worse than chunks in your beer. That said, this is a really nice brew. Smooth and well balanced. Caramel sweetness mixed with bourbon flavor. Mild hoppy bitterness throughout. Finish has a hint of vanilla to it. Tasty. beersearcher (2382) - Glendale, California, USA - MAR 23, 2012
Bottle # 1511 of 2,600. The cork was REALLY stuck in there. Took some serious tugging with a rabbit wine opener to get that out of there. A very balanced beer. The bourbon isn’t uber strong but it’s there but the spicy hop notes more than balance things out. Pours a dark red brown. Really digging this.
