12 oz can from Zippís Liquors (Minneapolis, MN). Pours a near opaque black, dark with a brownish bottom and edges that show some good light. A frothy offwhite head is decent sized, with a frothy ringed head laces ok. Aromas are Black IPA by the book: blasts of citrusy grapefruit and floral hops, roasty black malts, cocoa, creamy sweetness, roast and a touch of coffee. Toffee, toast, and biscuits. The hops are fairly strong, florals and citrus with some light resinous pine. Initial is medium bodied, perhaps a touch morw woith big florals and citrus, a hefty dose of grass, grapefruit, lemon. Bigger roasty and cocoa malts battle, dark and toasty, roast, some coffee, creamy silky mouthfeel, with some resinous pine, roasty malts. A good hopping, good mouthfeel, a solid tasty brew with some sweetness, great mouthfeel. Iím a sucker for these highly hopped porter "Black IPA" dealies. Finish is roasty, hoppy and dry. Some mellow cocoa and toffee sweetness. Quite nice. Steeeve (327) - Ambler, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 21, 2011
Dark brown pour with a big, fluffy light tan head. Aroma is light grapefruit and lemon with a little roast character. Taste is a bland mush of herbal citrus flavors and toasty malts. Slick medium body a little lacking in carbonation. Maybe this is an old can? Barely any bitterness at all, and a slight metallic twang in the finish. Disappointing. Pours black with a thick tan head. Aroma of piney and citrus hops, not much roast malt like I get in a lot of BIPAís. Taste is very very interesting, herbal, tea-like, dark fruit. Medium body, soft carbonation. Not sure if Iím a fan of this one. Tastes like a raspberry flavor tea or something. lamas (1636) - Washington DC, USA - FEB 19, 2011
Can. I couldíve sworn Iíd rated this one before. A blackish pour with a HUGE and creamy beige head that leaves chunks of lacing behind. An aroma of resiny pine, grapefruits, lemons, and a hint of biscuity maltiness. A thin to medium body. The taste starts with some biscuity maltiness, a bit of caramel, and a little cocoa. Some grapefruits, oranges, and rinds at the end. A BIG sour lemony finish. Bov (12636) - Bienne, SWITZERLAND - FEB 19, 2011
courtesy of Laurent Mousson and Chris Butler; canned - almost black colour with a long lasting beige foam; a fair hoppy aroma with notes of green tea, yeast and blackberries; medium to full malt body and fairly bitter, aftertaste of licorice and green tea again

Pours a dark brown with slightly translucent edges. Slight bitter hops in the aroma, light coffee tones to it as well. The bitter coffee is on the forefront of the palate. Leads into a rich full bodied beer that ends dry and a little bitter. The finish is short. AndyReynolds (1085) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - FEB 13, 2011
Draft at the Cincy Winter Beerfest. Aroma is very hoppy with a roasted malt backbone. Notes of coffee, dark chocolate, and citrus stand out. Palte is smooth and complex. Flavor is bitter and dry. I am impressed with this beer. It really combines an IPA with an Imperial Stout. Most black IPAs that I have tried have really just been a dark colored IPA, but with this beer, I could really pull out the roasted malts. Very complex. strongpieman (1651) - Mount Airy, Maryland, USA - FEB 12, 2011
Draft. Black with light tan head. Powerful hoppy and roasted aroma. Medium carbonation, a little creamier than a typical IPA. Long finish that is flavorful. Good all around beer. pottygok (548) - Ohio, USA - FEB 11, 2011
Aroma: Very interesting--roasted chocolate and caramel malts, but with floral hops underneath. Lots of things happening in the nose of this one.
Appearance: Clear black with a thick tan head that dissipated too quickly.
Taste: Medium-heavy sweetness with a light bitterness in the finish.
Palate: Medium body, slick texture, average carbonation, with a decent finish.
Overall: Itís drinkable, and itís not something Iíd snub my noise at were it served to me at a party, but Iím not overly blown away by this beer. NateBarnett (69) - Augusta, Georgia, USA - FEB 11, 2011
Can. Pours a dark brown, almost black with a light brown head. Aroma is floral with licorice, citrus, and chocolate. Taste is sweet chocolate, bitter hops, with a strong sour element as well.
