COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
When life gives you oysters, be sure to brew some killer oyster stout. That’s exactly what Nico Freccia and Shaun O’Sullivan, co-founders of 21st Amendment Brewery did. In a food+beer collaboration with Hog Island Oyster Company co-founders, John Finger and Terry Sawyer, the 21st Amendment Brewery team has created Marooned on Hog Island, the latest beer in their Insurrection Series, a limited edition, once-in-awhile four-pack release of a very special beer that rises up in revolt against common notions of what canned beer can be. Marooned on Hog Island has an ABV of 7.9% and was brewed using Magnum and Willamette hops with an ale yeast, a variety of malts including Pale, Crystal, Chocolate and Carafa, Rolled Oats, White Wheat and the kicker: 450 pounds of Hog Island Sweetwater oyster shells.

Hog island, philadelphia: at one point the largest shipyard in the world, now home to the most ineffecient and poorly designed hub airport in the world, the bitthplace to the hoagie sandwich. Lots o’ history here and Yes, lots of people have been marooned here... Espcially with the gracious help of UsAirways F in the A connections. Can pours motor oil black with a thin tan head with no retention. Nose of mild roast, grass. Taste is astringent. Dark caramel, and roastiness on the finish. Kinda of one demential. Body is thin.

can, $2.99. Pours medium brown, off white head shows good retention. Smoky, pencil lead, medium dark chocolate and hazelnut on nose. Mouthfeel is creamy and smooth. Flavor lands softly, threading toasted brown malt notes with something darker and more earth driven. Perhaps the salt in the oysters brings richness, though I didn’t detect any distinctive flavor notes. I don’t know if this is worth seeking out for that reason, but the brew remains very satisfying overall

pours a near black with a creamy tan head which dissipated quickly......aroma of chocolate, mineral, slight coffee ground......taste is very smooth with a full mouthfeel, mild bitterness, appearance of booze, sweet bread, hint of mineral. Quite nice.

12 oz can. A jet black pour with a very dense high khaki head. Aroma is very dark chocolate, leather, wood, grass, and apple. Dark coffee, toffee, dark chocolate, sea salt (from the oysters?), tobacco, wet leaves. Medium body, silky, creamy. Very tasty.

This is quite tasty. A nice roast at the perfect level with a lasting flavor and some decent hops. Tasty filling beer.

12oz can. Pours dark mahogony with a head that doesn’t stick around too long. Still trying to figure out this whole oyster stout thing. I’m not a huge fan of oysters in general but this stout is delicious. Is it the oysters? Probably not. Lots of other flavors in there like molasses and chocolate. Oysters not so much. But this is good.
